Job description
The GIS Technician maintains the accuracy and consistency of data within enterprise geodatabases and supports data conversion activities for engineering and utility projects. This role focuses on editing, developing, and revising geographic datasets and map products using established cartographic principles and GIS tools. Working under immediate supervision, the GIS Technician collaborates closely with internal staff, designers, and engineers to deliver high-quality geospatial data and mapping outputs., * Maintain and ensure the consistency and integrity of data within enterprise geodatabases, supporting ongoing data conversion efforts.
- Coordinate updates to geospatial features and attributes in enterprise geodatabases to keep datasets current and accurate.
- Use GIS editing techniques to develop, manipulate, and edit vector and raster datasets.
- Revise maps and map products in alignment with established cartographic concepts, principles, and processes.
- Create and modify geographic data from diverse sources, including internet repositories, paper documents, hand-drawn maps, Microsoft Excel files, text files, database tables, Google Earth files, and CAD files.
- Follow instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform daily tasks and project work under immediate supervision.
- Collaborate and interact regularly with staff, designers, and engineers to understand project requirements and deliver appropriate GIS outputs.
- Apply problem-solving skills and initiative to resolve data issues, improve workflows, and enhance the quality of geospatial products., This position is based 100% in the office within an open-concept workspace that encourages collaboration and communication. You will work closely with designers, engineers, and other staff in a professional consulting environment that supports nationwide engineering and utility projects. The role involves extensive computer-based work using GIS software and standard office applications in a modern office setting.
Requirements
- Experience working with GIS tools and concepts in a professional or academic setting.
- Ability to perform GIS data editing, including manipulation of vector and raster datasets.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with common office software.
- Experience working in an office environment.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and initiative in a technical or data-focused role.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and adhere to established guidelines while working under immediate supervision.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with staff, designers, and engineers.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Familiarity with Esri GIS software and related tools.
- Experience in GIS drafting and designing within a utility or engineering context.
- Interest in supporting projects for large electrical and gas utility clients.
- Ability to interpret and convert data from various formats, including Excel, text files, database tables, Google Earth files, CAD files, and paper-based maps.

This is a Contract position based out of Davenport, IA. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $27.00/hr.
