Job description

Galapagos Federal Systems LLC is seeking a motivated and well-qualified individual to join our team as a Systems Administrator Intermediate. This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse and skilled team supporting mission-critical systems.

The Systems Administrator Intermediate is responsible for supporting system administration activities, including the installation, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of operating systems and software. Under general direction, this role contributes to system reliability, performance, and overall operational effectiveness.

Responsibilities include coordinating and supporting technical efforts across projects, assisting in task prioritization, and ensuring system administration requirements are aligned with organizational IT objectives. The administrator also implements system enhancements, maintains system integrity, and supports long-term planning for systems operations and infrastructure., The Systems Administrator Intermediate will:

  • Install, configure, and maintain servers, hardware, operating systems, and associated components in accordance with organizational standards and operational requirements
  • Support and maintain systems hosting GIS infrastructure and Asset Management applications
  • Develop, document, and maintain system installation, configuration, and operational procedures
  • Contribute to and enforce system standards and best practices
  • Research and recommend innovative and automated solutions to improve system administration efficiency and scalability
  • Perform daily system monitoring, ensuring availability and integrity of servers, applications, and key processes
  • Review system and application logs, and verify completion of scheduled jobs, including backups
  • Conduct security monitoring to detect and respond to potential intrusions or vulnerabilities
  • Perform and validate backup and recovery operations, ensuring proper data protection and offsite storage procedures
  • Manage user accounts and access controls in accordance with organizational policies
  • Provide Tier III technical support, troubleshooting and resolving complex system and application issues
  • Diagnose and recover from hardware and software failures, coordinating with stakeholders as needed
  • Apply operating system patches, updates, and upgrades, and maintain system utilities and services
  • Perform performance monitoring, tuning, and capacity planning, including resource optimization (CPU, memory, storage)
  • Support data center operations, including environmental monitoring systems and equipment
  • Maintain accurate system documentation and support continuous operational improvement, Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time and typing and reading from a computer screen. The candidate must have enough mobility, including bending, reaching, and kneeling, to complete daily duties in a prompt and efficient manner and that may include lifting to thirty pounds, as necessary.

Requirements

The Systems Administrator Intermediate must have:

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • 3+ years of experience in systems administration or related IT roles
  • Strong knowledge of server installation, configuration, and maintenance in enterprise environments
  • Experience managing hardware, operating systems, storage, and system services
  • Familiarity with system monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting methodologies
  • Experience with backup and recovery processes and data protection best practices
  • Understanding of system security practices, including access control and vulnerability monitoring
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across hardware and software environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional IT teams, * Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline preferred or have equivalent experience
  • Cloud+ or GICSP or SSCP or Security+ or GSEC
