3rd Line / IT Infrastructure Engineer

This role is ideal for an experienced 2nd or 3rd Line Engineer within an MSP who wants to move into a more consultative, customer-facing infrastructure position, working with modern cloud-first and security-led environments.

You'll play a key role in supporting and improving client infrastructure while developing deeper expertise across Microsoft cloud, security, and enterprise infrastructure technologies.

The Role

As a Systems Consultant, you'll operate as a senior escalation point within the infrastructure team, supporting complex technical environments across multiple clients.

You'll work closely with Service Desk, Professional Services, and Account Management teams to ensure the stability, security, and scalability of client IT environments.

This position also offers the opportunity to develop into a technical authority or future infrastructure architect within a fast-growing MSP.

Key Responsibilities

Act as a 3rd line escalation point for complex infrastructure incidentsTroubleshoot and resolve business-critical technical issues, including root cause analysisSupport and contribute to major incident management and post-incident reviewsDeliver proactive infrastructure improvements, including monitoring, patching, and optimisationProvide technical oversight for changes, upgrades, and infrastructure improvementsContribute to automation, platform standardisation, and service improvementsSupport security posture, backup, business continuity, and disaster recovery solutionsDevelop into a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for key technologies and vendor platformsProvide mentorship and guidance to 1st and 2nd Line engineersMaintain clear technical documentation and communicate effectively with customersOccasional client site visits may be required for workshops, escalations, or technical meetings.

2-3+ years in a 2nd / 3rd Line or Infrastructure roleExperience working within an MSP or multi-client IT environmentStrong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skillsComfortable supporting complex infrastructure environmentsExperience across Microsoft cloud and on-prem infrastructure

Desirable Skills

Microsoft certifications (e.g. Azure Administrator - AZ-104)Experience with Microsoft 365 administration and identity servicesExposure to AWS or Google CloudExperience with RMM and PSA toolsKnowledge of backup platforms (e.g. Veeam, Datto)Exposure to SIEM / SOC toolsUnderstanding of AI tools such as Microsoft 365 CopilotLinux administration experience
