Job description

DMV’s Information Systems Division (ISD) is seeking a motivated, technology forward Informatin Technology (IT) Specialist I (Developer) to join a dynamic team in the Intelligent Automation Products Unit. In this role, you will enhance the quality, reliability, user experience, and accessibility of the DMV’s technology products, with a strong focus on automation solutions (including UiPath) and modern integration approaches. As an IT Specialist I, you will interpret complex technology and business problems, propose and present solutions to stakeholders, and contribute to analysis, design, development, and documentation using both established and emerging “cutting edge” technologies.

The IT Specialist I performs software engineering duties across the full lifecycle of modern software and automation systems, including user research, user centric design, development, configuration, testing, and implementation; and build and support software and automation solutions that streamline business processes, integrate multiple platforms and services, and deliver timely, accurate information to decision makers and customers.

Requirements

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s)., In addition to evaluating each candidate’s relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Automation & Systems Integration: Demonstrated experience driving complex projects through the full SDLC, architecting and building highly scalable workflow automations using RPA/low-code platforms (e.g., UiPath, Salesforce, etc.). Expert proficiency in developing custom integrations connecting disparate internal and third-party systems via APIs (REST, SOAP, GraphQL), advanced scripting (C#, .NET, Python), and complex SQL database management.
  • Process Analysis & Technical Communication: Exceptional ability to partner with cross-functional stakeholders to map current-state operations, evaluate automation feasibility, and translate complex operational challenges into precise Process Design Documents (PDDs). Highly skilled at delivering clear, strategic presentations to non-technical audiences and executive management.
  • Systems Integration & Data Management: Proficiency in designing architectures that connect disparate internal and third-party systems using APIs (REST, SOAP, GraphQL). Strong capability in developing custom integrations using standard scripting languages (e.g., C#, .NET, Python) and managing data exchange via relational databases utilizing complex SQL queries.
  • Resilient Engineering & Quality Assurance: A strong track record of building highly stable, scalable solutions with comprehensive error handling and exception management. Demonstrated ability to perform rigorous unit testing, complex root-cause analysis, and debugging across multiple staging tiers (Dev, QA/UAT, Prod) while ensuring strict compliance with data privacy and information security standards.
  • Leadership, Mentorship, & Continuous Improvement: A collaborative, self-starting professional with experience leading rigorous peer code walk-throughs, establishing coding standards, and mentoring junior developers. Proactively researches emerging technologies and automation trends to recommend ongoing system upgrades and process improvements.

DMV operates 24/7, and the incumbent may be required to carry a work cell phone and laptop. There may be occasions when travel to out of town conferences is necessary, or when evening and weekend work is required to meet project timelines.
