Job description

Our client is seeking a reliable, professional and compassionate Technical Support Officer - Bereavement Services to provide essential administrative and technical support within the Bereavement Services team.

This is a vital role supporting cemetery and crematorium operations, ensuring accurate record keeping, smooth service delivery and sensitive communication with bereaved families, funeral directors and members of the public.

The role is based in Plymouth with additional working from The Park, Plympton, and operates Monday to Friday only., * Provide administrative and technical support to Bereavement Services

  • Process burial and cremation records accurately and in line with procedures
  • Support booking and scheduling of funerals and services
  • Maintain and update cemetery and crematorium databases and records
  • Respond to enquiries from the public, funeral directors and stakeholders in a professional and sensitive manner
  • Ensure all documentation is processed accurately and in accordance with council requirements
  • Support the preparation of statutory records and registers
  • Liaise with operational teams to ensure smooth service delivery
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
  • Carry out general administrative duties as required by the service

Requirements

  • Ability to process service requests and manage client changes accurately and efficiently
  • Initiative when dealing with customer enquiries, ensuring issues are resolved appropriately or escalated when required
  • Ability to work efficiently, reducing waste and unnecessary bureaucracy
  • Strong ability to prioritise and manage daily workloads effectively to deliver a high-quality service
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, when dealing with customers and colleagues
  • Ability to engage sensitively, tactfully and professionally with bereaved or vulnerable service users
  • Strong IT skills, including accurate data entry into spreadsheets, databases and relevant systems
  • Competent keyboard skills for producing letters, documents and maintaining records
  • Strong numeracy skills, including the ability to carry out calculations and ensure data accuracy
  • Strong literacy skills, with excellent attention to spelling, grammar and document accuracy
  • Good judgement and problem-solving skills, including assessing customer needs and signposting appropriately
  • Strong customer service skills with a commitment to delivering a respectful and high-quality service
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team to deliver a coordinated and joined-up service
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities, You will ideally have:
  • Previous experience in an administrative, technical support or customer service role
  • Experience working in a public sector or service-based environment (desirable)
  • A calm, empathetic and professional approach when dealing with sensitive situations
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of work
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • A reliable and organised approach to workload management

Benefits & conditions

£13.26 per hour PAYE 37 hours per week (Monday-Friday, 8:00-16:00 or 8:30-16:30) 12-week opening assignment Covering long-term sickness
