Traveler Information Systems Coordinator

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Data Modernization & Innovation Office (DMIO), is looking for a Traveler Information Systems Coordinator (Planner 3) to help us Keep Alaska Moving! Depending on the selected applicant, this position can be filled in Juneau, Fairbanks, or Anchorage. Salary information is listed below: Juneau: $2,975.25 / Biweekly Fairbanks: $2,918.25 / Biweekly Anchorage: $2,833.50 / Biweekly What you will be doing: In this role, you will help plan, improve, and expand Alaska’s traveler information systems, including the 511 system, Road Weather Information System, and other intelligent transportation tools. Alaska 511 receives more than 1 million visits each year and is one of DOT&PF’s most visible ways of sharing road conditions, construction impacts, closures, weather information, and other real-time travel updates with the public.

This position plays an important role in making sure travelers, commercial drivers, emergency responders, and transportation partners have access to timely and reliable information across Alaska’s surface transportation system. The work combines operations, data, technology, public communication, and problem solving to improve how DOT&PF collects, manages, and shares traveler information statewide.

• Project Management: Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance.

Equivalent to those typically gained by: Post-secondary education in urban or regional planning, urban design, geography, community development, transportation planning, environmental and natural resources planning, economic planning and development, or closely related field; AND/OR Progressively responsible, independent experience in environmental, transportation, or community development; architecture; civil engineering; landscape architecture; urban design; historic preservation; geography; geographic information systems; housing administration; grant administration; accounting; business management; or research.

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the core competencies of:

• Contracting/Procurement: Knowledge of various types of contracts, techniques, or requirements (for example, Federal Acquisitions Regulations) for contracting or procurement, and contract negotiation and administration.

• Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: Uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.

• Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

If utilizing this education you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs; or an accredited U.S. state university reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the state university.
