Job description

The Physical Security Engineer joins BCG’s design and project management team as a technical leader on hyperscale data center security programs. You will lead physical security designs end-to-end, serve as a subject matter expert, and coordinate across disciplines with architecture, engineering, and other partners.

This is a remote role that requires periodic travel, up to 25%, for construction administration. Day-to-day responsibilities include remote attendance at project design meetings and design coordination with our production team. Construction administration activities include attending owner, architect, and contractor meetings, answering contractor RFIs, approving contractor submittals, and conducting onsite inspections and creating site observation reports to validate that construction follows our design plans.

This is a high-trust, high-autonomy role working directly with senior leadership and clients. Sound technical judgment, follow-through, and a client-focused approach are essential.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead physical security designs for clients end-to-end, coordinating with other disciplines and applying physical security best practices and procedures.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection for critical-infrastructure and data center environments.
  • Travel periodically for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction reviews, and coordination with design consultants from other disciplines (up to 25%).
  • Perform construction administration - attend owner, architect, and contractor meetings, answer contractor RFIs, approve contractor submittals, and conduct onsite inspections and create site observation reports.
  • Research industry best practices and make recommendations that strengthen BCG’s design standards.
  • Contribute to configuration and installation documentation and develop and incorporate security-based requirements into designs.
  • Collaborate across a remote 15-person team with clear, professional written and verbal communication.

Requirements

We are known for reliability, attention to detail, deep technical expertise, and the ability to meet demanding schedules on some of the most complex critical-infrastructure design projects in the industry. We are a lean, founder-led firm in a growth phase, and we invest in process, people, and the long view. Our people work remotely, collaborate across time zones, and own meaningful pieces of the business from day one., * Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field, or equivalent additional experience.

  • 5+ years of physical security engineering experience.
  • Proven data center security design experience (hyperscaler preferred).
  • Experience designing with industry-leading security products.
  • Strong working knowledge of access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection.
  • Cross-discipline coordination experience (Architecture, Electrical, Mechanical, and Structural).
  • U.S. citizenship and security clearance eligibility.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven remote team collaboration.

Nice to Have

  • Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) certification.
  • ASIS Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification.
  • Proficiency with design and documentation tools - Autodesk Forma, Bluebeam Revu, and working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit (BCG’s production team produces deliverables).
  • Exposure to drone technology integration, biometric systems, or augmented reality design visualization.
  • Prior work on hyperscale data center security programs.
  • Experience managing subcontractors or leading design teams.
  • Background in government, healthcare, or mission-critical facility security design.
