Districtwide Cybersecurity Specialist

This position is responsible for safeguarding the district’s digital infrastructure, protecting sensitive student and staff data, and ensuring a secure learning environment. The Districtwide Cybersecurity Specialist will monitor, analyze, and mitigate security threats, maintain cybersecurity tools, and promote districtwide security awareness. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Maintain, configure, and monitor districtwide security systems, including EDR/MDR solutions, endpoint protection, anti-virus, email filters, and content filtering solutions.
• Monitor network and server activity to detect, analyze, and respond to potential security breaches or vulnerabilities.
• Coordinate and oversee server patch management schedules and vulnerability remediation across district systems in collaboration with the systems team.
• Manage daily log analysis, EDR/MDR alerts, and incident response procedures; maintain and update the district’s Incident Response Plan (IRP), notifying supervisors of critical issues and implementing solutions.
• Collaborate with network and systems staff to ensure secure configurations for LAN/WAN infrastructure, servers, and cloud applications like Google Workspace for Education.
• Define, write, and enforce identity and access management policies; assist in managing user access controls, multi-factor authentication, and identity management across district software, including student management systems.
• Educate and train district staff, students, and stakeholders on cybersecurity best practices, including designing and executing simulated phishing campaigns and data privacy awareness.
• Evaluate, onboard, and manage cybersecurity vendors and third-party service providers to ensure compliance with district security standards and service level agreements.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation regarding security incidents, policies, and disaster recovery procedures.
• Track industry trends and monitor cybersecurity threat intelligence to ensure district systems remain defended against emerging threats.
• Embrace the process of constant learning and self-improvement through advanced security training and certifications.
• Perform other security-related duties as assigned.

• Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 35 pounds, bend, stoop, and reach during equipment inspection and installation.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related field preferred; equivalent background and work experience will be considered.
• Two or more years of experience in information technology with a focus on network security, systems administration, or incident response.
• Active security certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CEH, or GIAC) are highly preferred; current networking certifications (Network+ or CCNA) may be considered.
• Technical knowledge of TCP/IP, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and wireless network security.
• Familiarity with student data privacy standards, Data Privacy Agreements (DPAs), and cloud security compliance (Google Workspace for Education); adherence to FERPA COPPA, and CIPA compliance.
• Possess a valid Driver’s License and personal transportation to support various district sites.

EQUIPMENT USED

• Standard office equipment, network test equipment, and specialized cybersecurity hardware, monitoring appliances, and software systems utilized by the district.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Ability to work in a variety of locations, travel throughout the District, and work non-traditional hours (including evenings and weekends) as needed to mitigate security emergencies.
• While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, walk, stand, and reach.

Starting salary is $65,000.00 per year

This position works 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week and 260 days per year.
