Job description

This field-first leadership role bridges project management and applied engineering. You’ll oversee on-site execution of multiple AVL integration projects-managing crews, schedules, budgets, and contractor coordination-while providing hands-on engineering: system commissioning, configuration, and troubleshooting.

You’ll spend most of your time on jobsites and in client venues, leading Project Leads and field crews and ensuring design intent becomes functional, well-documented, commissioned systems.

Key Responsibilities

Field Project Management

  • Manage multiple projects from mobilization to completion-scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Translate engineering drawings and scopes into actionable field tasks and milestones.
  • Supervise and mentor Project Leads and Field Technicians; oversee crew performance, daily reporting, and issue resolution.
  • Serve as primary field liaison with General Contractors, Electrical Contractors, and other trades; represent Covenant in site meetings, inspections, and walkthroughs.
  • Manage labor forecasting, field scheduling, change orders, and milestone billing readiness; flag scope gaps and schedule conflicts early.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and Covenant quality standards.

On-Site Engineering & Commissioning

  • Provide on-site engineering direction and QA throughout installation.
  • Conduct system commissioning, device configuration, and final testing.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve field technical challenges; lead end-user training and system handoff.

Planning & Documentation

  • Participate in SAFe-aligned planning, coordination meetings, and Kanban stage transitions.
  • Validate daily reports, RFIs, redlines, and as-builts; ensure complete closeout documentation, testing records, and client signoffs.
  • Lead project retrospectives with field teams.

Requirements

  • Must live within commuting distance of San Antonio, TX and be present on active jobsites daily. This role cannot be performed remotely.
  • 3+ years in AVL integration, field commissioning, or technical project supervision - AVL industry experience is required; general IT or construction PM experience alone does not qualify.
  • Proven success leading technicians and subcontractors on active jobsites, delivering on time and on budget.
  • Strong knowledge of AVL system components, wiring standards, and installation methodologies.
  • Hands-on familiarity with DSPs, lighting control, network configuration, and system testing; strong background in Networked AV.
  • Proficiency reading architectural/engineering drawings, schematics, and bid documents.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Teams, Planner, Office, and D-Tools or similar.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CTS, CTS-I, or CTS-D; Dante, Q-SYS, or Crestron certification(s); PMP.
  • Experience with design-build or consultant-driven AVL projects.
  • AutoCAD, ProCore, PlanGrid; Agile/SAFe familiarity.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, or related field.

Why Join Covenant

You’ll operate at the intersection of leadership and hands-on execution-leading crews, commissioning systems, and seeing projects through from drawings to opening night, in an environment where initiative and craftsmanship thrive.
