Job description

As a Data Engineer, you will help defense clients transform complex mission objectives into integrated technical solutions that support future operational capabilities. Working at the intersection of mission engineering, systems engineering, and digital engineering, you will develop architecture, technical frameworks, and implementation roadmaps that enable informed decision-making and mission success. This role connects operational requirements with system architecture, data strategies, modeling and simulation, and system-of-systems integration. You will collaborate with government stakeholders, operators, engineers, and designers to ensure mission objectives remain technically achievable, architecturally traceable, and aligned throughout the capability lifecycle. What You Will Do

  • Develop mission architecture frameworks supporting future capability development.
  • Assess current-state systems, technical architecture, and data environments.
  • Perform technical analyses that inform capability gap assessments and modernization strategies.
  • Develop mission architectures that connect operational objectives with system capabilities.
  • Maintain architectural traceability from mission needs through technical implementation.
  • Document enterprise system landscapes, system architectures, data flows, and integration points.
  • Identify interoperability requirements, system interfaces, and technology readiness considerations.
  • Define architectural inputs supporting Modeling & Simulation (M&S) and Digital Engineering efforts.
  • Map mission threads, operational scenarios, and performance measures for future experimentation.
  • Translate operational user needs into technical architecture requirements.
  • Support System-of-Systems planning and mission engineering initiatives.
  • Evaluate technical risks, assumptions, constraints, and modernization opportunities.
  • Produce client-ready architecture products, technical documentation, executive briefings, white papers, and implementation roadmaps.
  • Develop architecture visualizations, system context diagrams, and data flow diagrams.
  • Deliver technically sound, mission-focused solutions with minimal supervision while effectively communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, Software Engineering, Operations Research, or a related technical discipline.
  • Five (5)+ years supporting Department of Defense, Federal, or National Security programs.
  • Experience developing systems, enterprise, or technical architecture.
  • Experience documenting system interfaces, data architectures, and integration strategies.
  • Familiarity with Mission Engineering principles and System-of-Systems concepts.
  • Experience supporting capability assessments, technology modernization, or digital transformation initiatives.
  • Strong technical writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to create executive-quality architecture diagrams and technical documentation.
  • Systems-thinking mindset with strong analytical and architectural reasoning.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and navigate ambiguity.

Preferred

  • Experience with Digital Engineering and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Familiarity with DoDAF, UAF, SysML, or related architecture frameworks.
  • Experience supporting Modeling & Simulation (M&S), Digital Twins, or mission analysis.
  • Experience supporting defense logistics, operational energy, space systems, mobility, or sustainment programs.
  • Knowledge of cloud integration, APIs, enterprise integration patterns, and data architecture.
  • Experience supporting AI-enabled decision support or advanced analytics initiatives.
  • Professional certifications such as INCOSE, OCSMP, TOGAF, SAFe, PMP, or DAWIA.
