- Flexibility and Problem-Solving: As a large, dynamic district, IPS needs staff who are adaptable and proactive in solving problems to meet the ever-changing needs of students and schools., Indianapolis Public Schools is seeking a visionary and high-octane Director of Education Technology to bridge the gap between technical infrastructure and classroom innovation. As a key leader within the Systems office, you will be responsible for ensuring that our digital ecosystem doesnât just âwork,â but actively accelerates student achievement and empowers our educators. This role reports to the Chief Systems Officer., * Vision & Strategy: Design and execute a district-wide digital learning roadmap that ensures equitable access to technology for all 30,000+ IPS students.
- System Implementation: Oversee the lifecycle of instructional technology tools (LMS, student devices, and digital curricula), ensuring seamless integration with existing IT infrastructure.
- Project Leadership: Lead large-scale tech deployments-from pilot programs to district-wide rollouts-ensuring they are delivered on time and with high user adoption.
- Capacity Building: Partner with the Learning team to design professional development that shifts technology use from âsubstitutionâ to âredefinitionâ of the learning experience.
- Data Stewardship: Use data analytics to evaluate the ROI of educational software and hardware, making high-stakes recommendations on what to scale, pivot, or sunset.
Strategic Partnerships
To lead effectively, you wonât work in a vacuum. You will be a master collaborator, partnering with:
- The Chief Learning Officer & Learning Teams: To ensure digital tools align with state standards and instructional best practices.
* The IT Operations Team: To coordinate the âbehind the scenesâ plumbing (bandwidth, security, and hardware) with the âfront-of-houseâ instructional needs.
Requirements
- Strategic & Analytical Thinking: You are a natural problem solver who can efficiently grasp the âbig pictureâ while quickly drilling down into root causes. You have a proven ability to chart a clear course through ambiguity and bring clarity to complex projects.
* Agility in a Fast-Moving Organization: You arenât overwhelmed by shifting priorities or tight deadlines; you are inspired by them. You will be the backbone of our team, establishing the systems and project plans that allow us to remain productive and efficient under pressure.
* Crisp, Clean Communication: Whether itâs a board presentation or an email to teachers, your messages are articulate and concise. You have the finesse to deliver tough news and the charisma to deliver inspiring ones.
* Leadership Partnership: You know how to move people. You will regularly interact with stakeholders, motivating them to make both incremental improvements and bold, âquantum leapâ changes.
* Independent Initiative: You are eager to learn and ready to step up to the plate. You donât wait for a roadmap-you help build it by identifying solutions independently., Education: Bachelorâs degree required; Masterâs degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, or MBA preferred.
* Experience: At least 5-7 years of experience in educational leadership, instructional technology, or project management. Experience in a large, urban school district is a significant plus.
* Technical Savvy: Deep familiarity with K-12 ecosystems (e.g., Canvas, Clever, Google Workspace for Education) and a solid understanding of student data privacy laws (FERPA/CIPA).
* Proven Results: A track record of managing complex, multi-million dollar projects or department-wide initiatives from conception to completion.
