We are currently looking for a Performance Engineer, Backend in Spain.In this role, you will operate at massive scale, optimizing backend systems that serve tens of billions of page views every month across globally distributed infrastructures. You will dive deep into application performance, database efficiency, and caching strategies to identify and eliminate bottlenecks that directly impact user experience. Working cross-functionally with product, platform, and systems engineers, you will bring a performance-first mindset into architecture decisions, code reviews, and incident resolution. Your work will have immediate, measurable impact, improving speed, reliability, and scalability across a broad product ecosystem.   • Identify, analyze, and eliminate backend performance bottlenecks through deep profiling of PHP applications, database queries, and caching layers.
  • Build and enhance performance observability by developing dashboards, instrumentation, and automated detection systems to surface regressions early.
  • Partner closely with engineering teams to review code and system architecture with a strong performance focus.
  • Establish and promote best practices for backend performance, contributing to internal guidelines and mentoring teams.
  • Proactively seek out performance risks and inefficiencies, driving investigations and improvements end-to-end.

Requirements

Requirements:Strong hands-on experience profiling and optimizing PHP applications, with deep understanding of memory usage and execution flow.Proven expertise in caching strategies and technologies such as Memcached, including cache design, invalidation trade-offs, and optimization techniques.Demonstrated experience improving performance at scale in high-traffic, production-grade systems.Solid background in performance instrumentation, APM tools, observability platforms, and data-driven optimization.Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to clearly document findings, proposals, and technical recommendations.High level of autonomy, ownership, and prioritization skills, with a proactive approach to solving complex performance challenges.Bonus: Experience working with WordPress and WooCommerce in large-scale production environments.
