Job description

As a Full-Stack Web Engineer, you design, engineer, test, improve, and deploy working web applications that meet both user needs and business requirements. You’ve mastered the fundamentals of modern web development and you’re now entering the second stage of your growth as an engineer: deepening your technical expertise while broadening the personal attributes and business insight to start guiding your team through the full lifecycle of a feature. You’re fully capable and proactive in taking your share of the work, and your teammates can rely on you to deliver consistent quality with minimal guidance.

  • Design, build, and deploy scalable and reliable full-stack web applications, from front end to back end.
  • Apply common design patterns (and know the anti-patterns to avoid), you leave the codebase better than you found it.
  • Take ownership of quality through test-driven development: you know your platform’s testing frameworks and what’s worth testing.
  • Value abstractions in your code and stay curious about the “why” behind architectural decisions.
  • Set up and improve deployment pipelines, deploy complex products end-to-end, and apply monitoring to what you build.
  • Build secure by default: you understand how attackers exploit weak spots and apply secure coding practices accordingly.
  • Work with design systems to deliver consistent, high-quality UI.
  • Translate business requirements into robust, performant, and secure technical solutions.
  • Integrate AI tools (Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor) into your daily workflow to sharpen code quality, speed up reviews, and boost productivity while critically validating AI-generated output.
  • Maintain frequent, clear communication with client stakeholders so everyone stays aligned on priorities.
  • Give and receive feedback openly, and support colleagues when they hit a challenge or ask a question.
  • Share what you learn through internal practice sessions, documentation, or contributing to In The Pocket’s external thought leadership.

Requirements

  • Proficient in modern front-end development: ES6+, HTML5, CSS3, and component-based frameworks such as React or Angular.
  • Familiar with back-end fundamentals (Node.js, MongoDB, SQL, and messaging systems like AMQP); bonus points for exposure to C# or Java.
  • Solid understanding of web technologies: HTTP/HTTPS, HTTP/2, WebSockets.
  • Comfortable building APIs: REST, GraphQL, JSON, OAuth, JWT, Swagger/OpenAPI.
  • Confident with the engineering fundamentals: Git, unit testing, CI/CD, documentation, dependency/version management, and monitoring.
  • A growing sense for software architecture, especially microservices and event-driven design.
  • Experience with Docker, and curious about cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Security-aware, and mindful of how that shapes the way you build.
  • Confident using AI tools to accelerate delivery, refine your solutions, and critically assess AI-generated output.
  • Self-aware about your own growth: you ask for feedback, reflect on where you can improve, and assess yourself against our career development framework.
  • A proactive, open communicator with your team and with client stakeholders.
  • Curious and eager to learn: you attend practice sessions, keep up with new tools and frameworks, and enjoy exploring them through side projects.
  • Comfortable with the pace and agility of a growing, evolving company.
  • Bachelor’s in Informatics or Master’s in Computer Science (or equivalent experience).
