Job description
A skilled senior engineer with firmware development and debugging skills is required for our design center in Cardiff. Working in a small, versatile team, the candidateâs work will be involved in product design and sustaining activities on a range of PACS RFID access control products which are sold worldwide. The candidate needs to be able to effectively manage their time to support work on a variety of products at different stages of the productâs lifecycle, and to be able to collaborate well with colleagues from different departments both onsite and overseas. Requirements
As our Senior Firmware Engineer, youâll support HIDâs success by:
- Implementation of embedded firmware designs and test solutions primarily in C and C#
- Implementation of cryptographic solutions.
- Creation of design documentation.
- Practical hands-on experience working with and debugging embedded systems.
- Working in a team environment.
- Ability to complete design related tasks with minimal supervision., * Ability to verify product software requirements.
- Engineering degree or equivalent or suitable experience.
- Minimum of 4+ years of related industry experience.
- Ability to understand, maintain and create designs from stories/user/stakeholder requirements.
- Ability to provide technical solutions to mid-to-high complexity issues.
- Good working knowledge of low programming languages (C/C#) and scripting.
- Familiar with many low-level developer techniques.
- TDD Unit test approach.
- Familiar with CI/CD techniques.
- Able to demonstrate experience with software version control.
- Able to demonstrate experience with the FW/SW development progress.
- Able to use standard development software: debuggers, editors, compilers.
- Understanding of cryptographic solutions including symmetric & PKI asymmetric

- Smart Card ISO7816 and RFID ISO 14443/15593 protocols.
- I2C and SPI protocols.
- USB low level protocols.
- Cryptographic code programming.
- Jenkins automation server/client programming.
- NUnit test frame4work.
- Bluetooth Low Energy protocol.
- Scripting languages e.g. Python.
- CMock unit testing.
- Implementation experience of cryptographic solutions including symmetric & ideally PKI asymmetric.
