Job description

The IT Support Manager is responsible for leading and developing the Desktop Support team to ensure employees receive timely, effective, and high quality technical support. This role oversees day to day operations, manages support workflows, drives service improvements, and ensures consistent delivery of end user technology services across the organization. The ideal candidate is both a strong people leader and a capable technical mentor who can balance operational efficiency with outstanding customer service., Your Day to Day as an IT Support Manager:

  • Leads, coaches, and mentors the Desktop Support team; oversees staffing, scheduling, and professional development.
  • Manages the full lifecycle of incidents, service requests, and escalations to ensure timely resolution.
  • Maintains strong ITSM practices including incident, request, asset, and configuration management.
  • Develops and maintains standard operating procedures, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge articles.
  • Monitors support metrics, identifies trends, and implements improvements to increase efficiency and service quality.
  • Collaborates with infrastructure and security teams on support requirements, endpoint security, and device lifecycle management.
  • Leads or participates in end user technology projects such as PC refresh cycles, OS upgrades, and application deployments.
  • Owns and maintains the IT asset management system, ensuring accurate, real-time tracking of all end-user hardware.
  • Owns end-user hardware purchasing for all sites, including desktops, laptops, monitors, peripherals, and specialty equipment.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree plus four (4) years of relevant experience OR a high school diploma/equivalent plus eight (8) years in desktop support, IT support, or end-user computing roles.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems, endpoint management tools, and enterprise productivity applications.
  • Experience managing an IT asset management system (hardware tracking, reporting, lifecycle).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer-service skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to interpret metrics and drive improvements.
  • Ability to manage workloads across multiple locations and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience supporting multi-site work environments.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q clearance.

Pay: $99,000 - $157,000

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $99,000 and $157,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed ‘at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
