Job description

As a key role in the Engineering team, the Design Engineer I will develop custom-designed solutions to satisfy customer project requests. You will work directly with sales, engineering, and manufacturing personnel in the custom design of sports equipment, per customer specification and engineering feasibility. You will be expected to learn both project submittals and preparation for production as described below, to contribute through seasonality where the workload is heaviest.

Responsibilities and Duties:

General Duties

· Manage and prioritize multiple projects at a time. Work with Engineering Coordinator and Lead Design Engineer to adjust schedule as necessary.

· Ensure projects are executed in an effective manner with regards to time, cost, and function

· Communicate clearly and proactively with customers and all levels of the organization

· Independently develop mechanical design solutions for custom projects, from sales concepts through site installation

· Collaborate with Quote Estimator to update product cost accuracy throughout development process

· Stay current on latest industry-related technologies

· Maintain expert level of product and application knowledge

· Actively contribute to the continual improvement of tools and relevant work practices

Project Submittals

· Review architectural prints and construct equipment layouts in Autodesk Inventor

· Articulate solutions through drawings and proposals to sales team and customers

· Respond to functional and technical elements of proposal requests

· Understand verbal and written directions from sales and project management team regarding customer desires or requirements

· Maintain accurate records of customers, opportunities, quotes, projects, contacts and correspondence in company database

· Provide feedback and detail requests via Field Check form

Preparation for Production

· Produce models and production-ready drawings for custom-designed equipment and attachment methods

· Perform structural analysis on engineering designs to ensure products meet safety and quality standards

· Report project progress and status to Lead Design Engineer and Engineering Coordinator

· Perform other functions as required

Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree in Structural, Mechanical, or other related Engineering or technical field with 1-5 years experience, OR 5+ years relevant experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree

· Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Design & Manufacturing principles)

· Ability to read/interpret architectural, mechanical, and occasionally electrical blueprints

· Comfortability and understanding of design for metal fabrication & assembly

· Strong organizational, time management, attention to detail and analytical skills

· Good communication skills, written and oral

· Experience with Microsoft Office Suite software

· Travel: <5%

Preferred qualifications:

· Proficiency with AutoCAD & Inventor software

· Experience in structural or architectural design

· Hands-on experience in a face-paced manufacturing environment

· Experience designing for cost optimization
