Job description

The Data Collector performs clerical and field support duties related to the collection and documentation of property data used in the mass appraisal process for ad valorem taxation purposes. This position is responsible for conducting on-sight property inspections; photographing structures and improvements; identifying and documenting observable property changes; and recording accurate field notes and property details for review by appraisal staff. THIS POITION IS STRICTLY A DATA COLLECTION AND CLERICAL SUPPORT ROLE AND DOES NOT PERFORM APPRAISAL, CLASSIFICATION, DEPRECIATION ANALYSIS, OR VALUATION FUNCTIONS., * Conducts routine field inspections of residential, commercial, agricultural, and vacant properties.

  • Photograph all structures and improvements from multiple sides and angles for appraisal documentation.
  • Observe and document visible property characteristics and changes, including but not limited to: new construction, new construction, additions, remodels, demolition or removal of structures, outbuildings, pools, carports, porches, land use changes, exterior condition changes.
  • Compare current property observations to prior inspection records and identify discrepancies or updates needed.
  • Record field notes, measurements, sketches, photographs, and property details using tablets, cameras, mapping software, or other District technology.
  • Verify property addresses, situs locations, and improvement existence in the field.
  • Upload and organize photographs and field data into the District’s appraisal system.
  • Assist appraisal staff by maintaining accurate and complete field documentation.
  • Communicate courteously and professionally with property owners and the public during field visits.
  • Operate personal vehicles safely and comply with all Texas laws.
  • Maintain productivity and inspection schedules established by the District.

  • Ability to observe and accurately document property characteristics and physical changes.
  • Ability to operate cameras, tablets, measuring tools, GPS devices, and related equipment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and enter data into computer systems.
  • Ability to read maps, property sketches, aerial imagery, and addresses.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with coworkers and the public.
  • Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision.
  • Basic organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and temperatures.
  • Ability to walk uneven terrain and access rural and urban properties.
  • Ability to drive frequently throughout the County.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to approximately twenty-five pounds., * High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in clerical support, data collection, inspections, construction, property records, mapping, photography, or related field preferred.
  • Experience using computers, tablets, cameras, GPS devices, or data entry systems preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Texas driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
  • TDLR registration is not required for this position.
