Job description
The HVAC/R Technical Support Specialist assists customers, dealers, and independent service technicians with commercial refrigeration equipment questions and warranty-service needs.
This is primarily an in-house technical-support position, not a traditional residential or commercial field-service route. Much of the work involves telephone and email communication, diagnostic questioning, service coordination, parts identification, case documentation, and follow-up.
The position also includes hands-on inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and basic component replacement on commercial refrigeration equipment and parts at our Tampa facility.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist customers, dealers, and service technicians with troubleshooting commercial refrigerators, freezers, controls, and related equipment.
- Ask appropriate diagnostic questions and obtain photographs, videos, temperature readings, electrical readings, and service information.
- Help determine whether reported equipment problems may be warranty-related or non-warranty-related.
- Coordinate warranty service with independent HVAC/R and commercial-refrigeration service companies throughout the United States.
- Provide service technicians with product information, wiring diagrams, parts information, service documentation, and troubleshooting assistance.
- Identify replacement parts and coordinate parts shipments.
- Create and maintain accurate service cases, notes, and follow-up activities in the company CRM.
- Follow service matters through completion and maintain professional communication with customers and service companies.
- Review service-company documentation and invoices for consistency with company warranty-service guidelines.
- Inspect and test refrigerators, freezers, controllers, motors, sensors, relays, electrical components, and related parts at our Tampa facility.
- Perform basic component replacement and equipment adjustments after receiving appropriate training.
- Work cooperatively with sales, warehouse, parts, and management personnel.
Requirements
We are seeking a technically capable and dependable individual who wants to develop specialized experience in commercial refrigeration troubleshooting, technical support, warranty-service coordination, and equipment testing.
Candidates may qualify through HVAC or HVAC/R education, relevant work experience, military technical training, appliance or equipment repair, electrical troubleshooting, industrial or facilities maintenance, or another comparable hands-on technical background.
Prior commercial refrigeration employment is helpful but is not required. Product-specific training will be provided., Candidates should have a relevant technical foundation obtained through one or more of the following:
- HVAC, HVAC/R, refrigeration, electrical, industrial-maintenance, appliance-repair, or comparable technical education.
- Relevant military technical or equipment-maintenance experience.
- Practical experience diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, or installing HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, appliance, restaurant, industrial, or other mechanical equipment.
Additional qualifications include:
- Basic understanding of refrigeration-cycle, electrical, or mechanical principles.
- Familiarity with a digital multimeter or other electrical diagnostic tools, or a demonstrated ability to learn their proper use.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to perform hands-on equipment inspection and testing.
- Ability to follow a logical troubleshooting process.
- Professional telephone, email, and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers and experienced service technicians.
- Ability to learn company products, parts, warranty procedures, CRM software, and inventory systems.
- Dependability, organization, self-motivation, and strong follow-through.
- Ability to manage multiple open service matters and maintain accurate documentation.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small company team.
Preferred but Not Required
- Completion of an HVAC or HVAC/R technical-training program.
- EPA Section 608 certification.
- Commercial refrigeration experience.
- HVAC service or air-conditioning experience.
- Refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, or equipment-repair experience.
- Appliance, restaurant-equipment, facilities-maintenance, or industrial-maintenance experience.
- Familiarity with wiring diagrams, compressors, fan motors, controllers, sensors, relays, capacitors, and start components.
- Prior technical-support, warranty-support, or customer-service experience.
- Experience using CRM or inventory-management software.
