Job description

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Web Developer specializing in eCommerce platforms, with a strong focus on WooCommerce development. Needed to take over an existing eCommerce website and correct issues resulting from an incomplete rebuild.

This is not a brand-new website. Much of the work has already been completed, but portions of the implementation will need to be reviewed, corrected, and properly finished. The site has approximately 376 products and is already live, but several key areas now require professional attention to bring everything up to the standard originally intended.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to craft seamless online shopping experiences, optimize website performance, and implement scalable solutions that drive business growth. As a key member of our development team, you will leverage your expertise in web applications, front-end and back-end technologies, and system architecture to deliver innovative digital solutions. Your passion for responsive design, SEO, and user experience will help elevate our eCommerce presence to new heights.

Duties

  • Develop, customize, and maintain WooCommerce stores ensuring robust functionality and an engaging user experience
  • Collaborate with UX/UI designers to translate wireframes and prototypes into responsive web applications using HTML, CSS (including SCSS), JavaScript frameworks (such as React or jQuery), and Bootstrap
  • Integrate third-party APIs and develop RESTful APIs to enhance store capabilities and streamline data flow between systems
  • Optimize website performance through effective use of caching, database management (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server), and scalable architecture principles
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins or GitHub Actions to automate testing, deployment, and version control processes
  • Manage containerization and deployment environments utilizing Docker and AWS services for reliable application delivery
  • Conduct unit testing and code reviews to ensure high-quality software development following SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) best practices
  • Utilize version control systems such as Git or SVN to track changes and collaborate effectively within Agile teams using tools like Jira or Trello
  • Enhance SEO strategies by optimizing site structure, metadata, and implementing best practices for search engine visibility
  • Support ongoing system architecture improvements for scalability, security, and performance across web applications

Requirements

The ideal person should be experienced with:

WooCommerce WordPress Product categories and organization Related products Variable products Product images and galleries General site optimization Google Merchant compatibility is a plus

  • Extensive experience with eCommerce platforms, especially WooCommerce customization and development
  • Strong proficiency in front-end technologies including HTML5, CSS3 (SCSS), JavaScript (TypeScript), jQuery, Bootstrap, React.js, Redux, Angular or Vue.js frameworks
  • Solid back-end development skills with PHP, Python (Django), Java (Spring Framework), ASP.NET or Node.js environments
  • Expertise in database management systems such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB or SQLite; proficient in writing complex SQL queries
  • Familiarity with RESTful API design and integration as well as GraphQL for flexible data querying
  • Experience with DevOps tools including Docker containers, Jenkins CI/CD pipelines, Ansible automation tools, Azure or AWS cloud services
  • Knowledge of system architecture principles to develop scalable web applications that handle high traffic loads efficiently
  • Ability to develop responsive web designs ensuring optimal user experiences across devices using responsive web design techniques
  • Experience with wireframing tools for UX/UI planning; familiarity with WordPress and Drupal content management systems is a plus
  • Strong understanding of SEO best practices related to web development; experience with XML, JSON data formats for data visualization purposes
  • Proficiency in developer tools such as Visual Studio Code or Visual Studio IDEs; version control expertise using GitHub or SVN workflows
  • Knowledge of SOAP/RESTful web services integration; familiarity with application security standards including SSL/TLS protocols
