Job description

  1. We are building a senior research team in Amsterdam to shape the next generation of DevEco, the integrated development environment for the HarmonyOS ecosystem.
  2. This is a founding leadership role with significant ownership. You will hire and lead a core team of senior experts, define the technical direction, and work closely with the DevEco IDE product organization at headquarters in China.
  3. The team’s mission is future direction, prototyping, technology scouting, and external collaboration in AI-native developer tooling. Production engineering is handled by the larger DevEco organization at headquarters. The Amsterdam team’s role is to look ahead, validate promising ideas, build external connections, and support well-grounded decisions about the future of developer tooling for HarmonyOS.
  4. The role focuses on a frontier area in software development: how human developers and AI agents collaborate within modern development environments. Your prototypes, research insights, and recommendations will directly support the future direction of DevEco and the HarmonyOS developer ecosystem.

What You Will Do

  1. Lead the technical vision for an AI-native IDE and next-generation developer experience for DevEco.
  2. Track and evaluate developments in IDEs, developer tools, and agentic coding systems, including tools such as Claude, Cursor, Trae, Google Antigravity, and other emerging products.
  3. Develop proof-of-concept prototypes and demos, and present them to the DevEco IDE team and relevant stakeholders.
  4. Produce technology scouting reports to support leadership decisions on future investment and product direction.
  5. Build relationships with universities, research institutes, startups, and industry experts in the developer-tools ecosystem.
  6. Hire, mentor, and lead a small team of senior experts, setting the technical direction and quality standards.

Requirements

  1. Proven hands-on experience in IDE development, developer-tools development, or agentic harness engineering.
  2. Team leadership experience, including leading engineers or researchers, participating in hiring decisions, and being accountable for team direction and output.
  3. Strong understanding of developer experience and what makes a developer tool effective, practical, and user-friendly.
  4. Ability to translate between research and product, technical details and strategic direction, and local team needs and headquarters requirements.
  5. Strong written and spoken English.
  6. Based in or willing to relocate to Amsterdam., 1. Interested in building world-class developing tools for emerging mobile operating system.
  7. Familiarity with modern IDE platform architecture, such as IntelliJ Platform, PSI, or LSP.
  8. Experience with compiler toolchains, build systems, developer harnesses, or related infrastructure.
  9. Practical experience integrating LLMs or coding agents into developer workflows, including context engineering, agent orchestration, evaluation, or verification.
  10. Strong technical writing skills and the ability to assess emerging technologies critically.
