Job description
Sateliot is a Barcelona-based Startup in the New Space sector, becoming the first satellite telecommunications operator that will provide global and continuous connectivity to all the elements that will make up the massive Internet of Things (IoT) universe under the 5G protocol.Se anima a todos los posibles solicitantes a que se desplacen y lean la descripciĂłn completa del puesto antes de presentar su candidatura. In order to do so, Sateliot is launching a constellation of last generation nanosatellites, located at low altitude that act as mobile towers.Sateliot is the perfect complement for large telecommunications companies by providing them with the necessary infrastructure where terrestrial technologies do not arrive.YOUR MISSIONWeâre looking for a Senior Protocol Stack & Network Automation Engineer to define, evolve, and operate the end-to-end protocol stack connecting space links/RF ground systems, ground stations, and terrestrial + cloud networks. This role is for someone with exceptionally strong networking fundamentals (from first principles), hands-on space/RF protocol stack experience, and a maker mindset-someone who loves building lab setups, validating assumptions, and turning complex networking/protocol problems into repeatable, automated solutions.YOUR MAIN FUNCTIONSOwn the Space Ground IP protocol stack (core accountability)Define and document the protocol stack across space links, ground systems, ground station networks, and IP/cloud environments.Work hands-on with space protocol stacks and their operational implications, including CCSDS-based stacks (e.g., AOS, PUS) and DVB-S2 with ground-segment adaptation (e.g., GSE or equivalent patterns used in real systems).Design and implement approaches to map / bridge / encapsulate / translate between stacks and networking domains (space ground station IP), including constraints like MTU/fragmentation, latency/jitter, loss, ordering, and retransmission behavior.Partner with Ground/Space/Software teams to ensure protocol choices are implementable, testable, and operable.Build and operate reliable networks (vendor-agnostic)Design and operate routing, segmentation, and secure connectivity across the full path.Own core network domains:Switching: VLANs, L2/L3 boundaries, redundancy patterns, Spanning Tree and loop preventionSecurity: firewalls, NAT, ACLs, segmentation, VPN concepts (as needed)Troubleshooting: packet/flow-level analysis, asymmetric routing, MTU issues, misconfigurations, performance anomaliesConfidently trace end-to-end flows across ground infrastructure cloud, explaining what each hop/layer is doing and why.Replace manual processes with automation: config-as-code, templating, validation checks, rollout/rollback workflows, drift detection.Build labs to reproduce issues and validate protocol-stack changes before rollout.Produce clear docs/runbooks and raise the operational bar through repeatability and guardrails.REQUIREMENTSSpace protocol stack experience (required): proven ability to work with and reason about space protocol stacks such as CCSDS-based stacks (AOS, PUS), and to translate/bridge those into IP networking environments.Deep networking fundamentals with hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting real networks (vendor-agnostic).Strong working knowledge of BGP, switching + STP, firewalls, NAT, and practical troubleshooting.Automation mindset: you actively avoid repetitive manual work and build repeatable workflows (scripts, pipelines, config validation, etc.).Maker mentality: you enjoy building labs, experimenting, and proving designs with real setups.NICE TO HAVEAWS networking knowledge: Transit Gateway, complex multi-account routing, route propagation strategies, hybrid connectivity patterns at scale.Programming/scripting: Python preferred (or equivalent). The ability to read code comfortably is a big plus.Infrastructure/network automation tooling (e.g., Terraform/Ansible), CI/CD for network changes, automated tests/verification.Network observability experience (logs/metrics/traces) and building actionable dashboards/alerts.WHAT YOUâLL FIND
