Information Technology (Systems Administrator)

• Review hardware and/or software to ensure medical missions requirements are met with functionality.
• Resolve IT equipment or software to ensure operability.
• Implement system software changes or new operating system releases.
• Maintain operational status of systems by isolating errors and applying preventative processes.
• Analyze workflow to develop implementation and/or upgrade plans.
• Schedule the installation of new hardware, software, and/or applications.
• Advises and assists other IT Specialists in implementing approved automated systems.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• A pre-placement medical examination is required.
• Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) troubleshooting computer, network, or system issues to identify resolution; 2) managing software systems to ensure accessibility, such as establishing user accounts; AND 3) applying corrective action to resolve equipment or software interfacing or operability issues. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, three full years of graduate education from an accredited or pre-accredited institution that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.
