Job description

This visionary and technically accomplished Transmission Line Practice Leader to spearhead our expanding Power Delivery division. In this senior leadership role, you will drive the strategic growth of our transmission engineering practice, oversee high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) projects, and mentor a multidisciplinary team of engineers. You will serve as the primary technical expert and business development catalyst, cultivating high-level relationships with major electric utilities, cooperatives, and developers., * Design of Power Delivery Infrastructure systems including transmission lines, distribution lines, and substations

  • Market Expansion: Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities within the utility and renewable energy sectors.
  • Client Management:Serve as the executive-level point of contact for key utility clients, ensuring absolute project satisfaction.
  • Proposal Leadership: Direct the creation of winning proposals, scope definitions, fee estimations, and contract negotiations
  • Lead project teams in an active production role
  • Lead project meetings internally and externally with clients
  • Preparation of conceptual and detailed calculations to support the creation of construction documents and specifications. These calculations may include, foundation design, material quantities, and design of overhead power structures.
  • Daily interaction and collaboration on cross-functional teams across multiple disciplines
  • Perform quality work that promotes client retention

Requirements

  • 12+ years of design experience in engineering specifically in any of the following: transmission, distribution, or communication line design
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (advanced degrees are a plus)
  • PE or ability to obtain within 12 months
  • Ideal candidate is passionate about learning and is curious and adaptable
  • The right attitude is valued over a particular skill set
  • Ability to focus and work on creative solutions to engineering problems
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to work independently and in a team environment effectively
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment

Ideal Qualifications

  • Understanding of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC), Rural Utility Service (RUS) Electrical Bulletins, ASCE-7, or California General Order 95, and other ASCE/IEEE/CIGRE standards
  • Ability to design structures using multiple materials
  • Proficiency using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (AutoCAD)
  • Transmission Line Modeling (PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole) experience is a plus
  • Experience with lattice towers is a plus, Applicants must be legally authorized to work for Kimley-Horn in the U.S. without employer sponsorship. We do not typically sponsor H1-B or any other work visa petitions.
