The (USA) Software Engineer III plays a critical role in designing, developing, and delivering scalable software solutions by collaborating with cross-functional teams including product management and user experience. This position involves troubleshooting complex issues, performing root cause analysis, and ensuring high-quality code through rigorous testing and continuous integration practices. The role requires managing project requirements, driving technical solutions, and mentoring small engineering groups to achieve timely and sustainable outcomes. Commitment to maintaining security standards, supporting business needs, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement is essential for success in this role.

About the team:

The BuyBox team plays a key role in Walmart’s e-commerce platform by developing and maintaining a microservices ecosystem that optimizes offer selection using machine learning and business rules. The team enhances offer ranking, ensures smooth system interactions, and monitors performance to address issues quickly. Focused on collaboration, technical expertise, and continuous innovation, the team drives operational excellence and supply chain efficiency. Applying agile practices and data-driven decision making, the team supports Walmart’s commitment to reliable service and value, fostering a culture centered on problem solving and ongoing improvement.

What you’ll do:

  • Collaborate with product, project, business, and user experience teams to develop high-level designs for small to medium projects.

  • Analyze and troubleshoot production and business issues, performing root cause analysis and developing effective solutions.

  • Translate project requirements into technical solutions, write and test code, and ensure timely delivery of software components.

  • Provide guidance and support to small engineering teams, including offshore associates, to meet project goals.

  • Develop and maintain documentation, test cases, and automation scripts to support continuous integration and deployment.

  • Monitor application performance, conduct maintenance, and implement improvements to ensure scalability and reliability.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in object-oriented programming and platform design with strong technical acumen.

  • Experience in iterative and incremental development, delivering scoped features or models effectively.

  • Proficiency in API design, component services, and debugging to ensure high-quality software solutions.

  • Ability to conduct root cause analysis and troubleshoot complex business and production issues.

  • Skilled in continuous development practices, including CI/CD automation and telemetry implementation.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on sustainable, scalable, and secure software delivery.

  • Experience collaborating across cross-functional teams to translate requirements into technical solutions., Outlined below are the required minimum qualifications for this position. If none are listed, there are no minimum qualifications.

Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 2 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Option 2: 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
