Job description

This specific role will join our design team to oversee the event overlay, including the design, procurement, and management of event utility infrastructure (power, plumbing, and HVAC). Working closely with the structure and tent designers, architectural designer, internal departments, external suppliers, and the Site Operations team for execution. The Overlay Designer and Infrastructure Specialist will be responsible for the design, coordination, and execution of the F1 Miami Grand Prix Event Overlay. Coordination spans across numerous internal departments, external suppliers, agencies, partnerships, and operational participants. The Designer will understand the needs of all parties to facilitate the smooth execution of the event. The Event Overlay and the Infrastructure plan within it is the road map to successful race weekend operations. An impactful designer will rely on technical skills and a design-centric approach to create synergy and efficiencies that enhance the Overlay and utility infrastructure designs. Responsibilities also include construction administration and site oversight of all disciplines and trades, ensuring they are in harmony and limiting as many conflicts as possible. Problem solving in the field, clear communication, and teamwork with the greater Design team is essential to a successful event. Location:

  • This is a full-time position based on site at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, FL.

Responsibilities: Design and Planning

  • Gather design information from all Full-Time team stakeholders of scopes and ensure accurate placement on the Overlay and conflict resolution
  • Coordinate with external suppliers and Life Safety/Permitting team for design file transferring, accurate placement on Overlay, and code compliance
  • Adjust Overlay design changes and additions from internal departments with design-centric approach, work to understand spatial needs and logistical constraints
  • Cross-functional leadership with internal teams, including Food & Beverage, Entertainment, Partnerships, Private Clients, Luxury, Fan Experience, Security and IT, as it pertains to Overlay placement and changes
  • Understand the utility needs of all assets on the Overlay, including power, plumbing, and HVAC. This includes structures, tents, activations, BOH elements, and production/entertainment
  • Design the placement and cable paths/utility runs of utility infrastructure on the Overlay
  • Coordinate and plan utility locations in built environments with the greater design team, Site Ops team, and external suppliers. The goal is to limit as many conflicts as possible
  • Develop a strategic plan for testing of all utility infrastructure, ensuring best race weekend operations in advance

Permitting Coordination

  • Reviews with the Senior Manager of Design and Life Safety/Permit experts for timely and accurate permit submissions of Event Overlay
  • Assist with document organization for permit submissions as it relates to the Overlay

Field Operations and Supplier Management

  • Work with the Site Operations Design Lead to provide coordination information to vendors, contractors, and stakeholders for production aspects of the Event Overlay execution. Requires on-site problem-solving skills and clear communication
  • Verify layouts and major asset placement with GPS survey equipment and coordinate with expert survey team for quality assurance
  • Manage the suppliers of all utility infrastructure, with the support of Site Ops utility leads, including oversight of timely installation schedules, accurate placement of assets in accordance with the Overlay, and coordination with the Structures teams for connection to built environments
  • Assist the Structure and Tent designers to develop and procure built environments that fit on the Overlay and function well with operational needs
  • January - May during load in and load out; coordinate with and support the Site Operations and Full-Time team for seamless Overlay execution; including structure and tent surveying, utility infrastructure placement, major site asset installation, and BOH planning and install.
  • Laison between suppliers and internal departments to address on-site conflicts and quickly resolve with budget and build-time in mind

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Design, Landscape Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Design, project focuses on MEP designs, urban planning, site planning, Architecture, or similar disciplines
  • Technical skills required: AutoCAD, Sketchup, Bluebeam. AutoCAD expertise with large files and high volume of External References required.
  • Proven experience developing utility infrastructure designs and asset procurement for utilities, and executing projects from concept through construction
  • Well versed in Life Safety and International Building Code
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams and external vendors
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once with on-time design deliverables and deadlines met
  • Team-player, creative, solution-oriented, driven, and passionate
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize in a high-stakes, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, with higher demand from January - May, including weekends and evenings, depending on event needs
