Job description

IBM Sterling B2B Integrator Expertise

  • Act as a technical SME for IBM Sterling B2B Integrator in enterprise-scale environments.
  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain robust B2B integrations supporting supply chain, logistics, automotive, and manufacturing transactions.
  • Perform deep-dive technical assessments of existing B2B/EDI environments to identify gaps, risks, performance bottlenecks, and optimization opportunities.
  • Scope and estimate effort for new EDI/API onboarding and complex integration initiatives.

EDI & Mapping

  • Hands-on development of EDI X12 and EDIFACT transactions (MUST HAVE).
  • Independently author and maintain EDI specifications / implementation guidelines for trading partners.
  • Create, maintain, and optimize EDI maps (minimum lifetime experience of 500+ maps from scratch).
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and partner-specific requirements.

Business Process Development

  • Design and implement Sterling business processes from scratch (minimum lifetime experience of 100+ business processes).
  • Optimize existing business processes for performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Implement error handling, reprocessing, alerting, logging, and auditing best practices.

APIs & Web Services

  • Design and support REST APIs and API-based integrations within the Sterling ecosystem.
  • Implement and consume Web Services (SOAP/REST) as part of hybrid EDI/API architectures.
  • Integrate Sterling with ERP systems, WMS, TMS, and external partner platforms.

Communications & Security

  • Configure and manage secure communication protocols including:
  • SFTP, FTP, FTPS (Server & Client)
  • AS2, AS3
  • HTTP / HTTPS
  • Manage certificates, encryption, authentication, and secure data exchange best practices.

Project & Delivery Leadership

  • Lead and manage EDI and API projects, including planning, execution, and delivery.
  • Develop detailed, disciplined project plans for EDI implementations, including timelines, dependencies, risks, and milestones.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the full SDLC for EDI implementations, from requirements gathering to production support.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, customers, and trading partners to ensure successful onboarding and go-lives.

Training & Knowledge Transfer

  • Provide formal and informal training to internal teams and customers on Sterling B2B Integrator, EDI standards, and best practices.
  • Create documentation, runbooks, and operational guides.

Requirements

We are seeking a highly experienced IBM Sterling B2B Integrator (SBI) Subject Matter Expert with deep, hands-on expertise designing, building, optimizing, and managing large-scale B2B / EDI environments. This role requires strong technical leadership, architectural judgment, and the ability to independently assess complex integrations, define scope, and lead disciplined EDI and API implementations from concept through production.

The ideal candidate has extensive real-world experience across EDI X12, EDIFACT, APIs, Web Services, and secure communications, and has personally authored a significant volume of business processes and EDI maps from scratch., * 10+ years of hands-on experience with IBM Sterling B2B Integrator.

  • Expert-level knowledge of EDI X12 and EDIFACT (Supply Chain, Logistics, Automotive, Manufacturing).
  • Proven experience writing:
  • 100+ Sterling business processes from scratch
  • 500+ EDI maps from scratch
  • Strong experience with REST APIs, Web Services, and API-based integrations.
  • Deep understanding of EDI implementation SDLC and enterprise B2B architecture.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently assess, design, and lead complex B2B integrations.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Nice-to-Have / Additional Skills

  • Experience integrating Sterling with major ERPs (SAP, Oracle, etc.).
  • Performance tuning and scalability optimization of large B2B platforms.
  • High-availability and disaster recovery design for Sterling environments.
  • Experience with managed file transfer (MFT) strategies.
  • Familiarity with cloud or hybrid deployments (where applicable).

Travel

  • Occasional travel required to meet customers or provide on-site consulting services., * How many years of hands-on experience do you have in selling EDI/API solutions to enterprise customers?
