Director of Software Engineering- Virtual Private Cloud

Experteer Overview In this role you will lead a critical SDN platform initiative (JPMC-VPC) to modernize the firm’s network infrastructure and enable decades of innovation. You’ll set technical direction across a cross-functional product and engineering portfolio, partnering with peers to deliver secure, scalable, and market-leading technology. You’ll translate complex networking and software concepts for executive stakeholders and drive production capabilities with a focus on reliability and cost efficiency. This is a high-impact leadership role that shapes resilient, cloud-native networking at scale. Compensation / Benefits * Define strategy and technical direction for multiple products and technologies across a portfolio * Design and architect core JPMC-VPC components (control plane OVN, data plane OVS/DPU, software gateways, load balancers, IPAM) * Lead technology and process implementations to meet objectives across teams * Create reusable, durable production capabilities and novel solutions * Provide governance on coding decisions, cost of ownership, maintainability, reliability, and portfolio operations * Allocate resources and guide budgets, operations, and process execution * Promote engineering excellence through CI/CD, infrastructure as code, testing, and observability * Communicate complex technical issues to senior leadership for informed tech investments * Collaborate with vendor partners (Red Hat, NVIDIA) on roadmaps and integrations and engage in relevant open-source communities * Build and develop talent, foster inclusive teams, and champion diversity and inclusion Tasks * 12+ years in systems engineering, networking, distributed systems, or related infrastructure platforms with increasing scope * Experience leading cross-functional teams delivering complex platforms at scale * Proven ability to influence across functions and manage senior stakeholder relationships * Hands-on experience with system design, application development, testing, and operational stability for mission-critical infrastructure * Strong engineering background with Go, Python, C/C++, or Rust * Hands-on SDN experience (OVN, OVS or equivalent) * Expert knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, switching, load balancing) * Experience with CI/CD, IaC, and observability * Extensive cloud-native experience * Experience hiring, developing, and building inclusive engineering cultures * Education in Computer Science/Engineering/Mathematics or related field (or equivalent practical experience) Key requirements * comprehensive health care coverage * on-site health and wellness centers * retirement savings plan * backup childcare * tuition reimbursement * mental health support
