Applications Engineer

The Applications Engineer serves as a technical expert who bridges the gap between customers, operations, and engineering. This role is responsible for developing, supporting, and optimizing CNC programs for vertical lathes, CNC mills, and turbine shroud repair operations. The Applications Engineer applies advanced machining knowledge and CNC coding expertise to support complex repair and manufacturing applications, ensuring accurate toolpaths, efficient processes, and high-quality results.

This position works closely with customers, machine operators, and engineering teams to troubleshoot machining challenges and implement reliable, application-specific solutions in a high-precision aerospace environment., CNC Programming & Technical Execution

• Develop, optimize, and support CNC programs for vertical lathes, CNC milling machines, and turbine shroud repair applications, ensuring accuracy, repeatability, and efficiency
• Troubleshoot and refine CNC code at the machine and post-processor level to resolve machining, repair, and process issues
• Create, review, and modify CAD models to support CNC programming, repair strategies, tooling paths, and process validation
• Support additive manufacturing processes as they relate to design
• Provide technical guidance to operators, technicians, and customers on machining strategies, tooling selection, and process optimization
• Troubleshoot machine and process issues directly at the machine or on the shop floor

Process Development, Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to define and implement application-specific machining and repair strategies
• Develop and maintain standard work instructions, setup sheets, programming guidelines, and process documentation
• Apply Lean manufacturing principles to improve cycle times, reduce waste, enhance process flow, and increase operational efficiency
• Support process validation activities, including first-article inspections, trial runs, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Capture lessons learned and best practices and incorporate them into standard processes and documentation

Do you have experience in Cross-functional communication?, * Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field OR equivalent hands-on experience in CNC programming and manufacturing applications

• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to translate application requirements into practical machining solutions
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with operators, engineers, and customers, * 3+ years of experience developing and supporting CNC programs for vertical lathes and CNC milling machines in a production or repair environment
• Working knowledge of CNC coding (G-code), machining strategies, tooling, and workholding
• Experience supporting complex repair operations involving turbine components, aerospace parts, or other high-tolerance applications
• Proficiency working with CAD models to support CNC programming, repair strategies, and process development
• Experience creating and maintaining standard work instructions, setup documentation, and programming guidelines
• Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles, * Manufacturing: 3 years (Preferred)
