Job description
Experteer Overview In this Staff Software Engineer role, you will own the end-to-end Boot software design and integration strategy for new ECU architectures. You’ll lead bring-up and integration of boot, memory, and OTA concepts across controller families, partnering with cross-functional teams to ensure safe, secure, and production-ready embedded software. You’ll tackle architecture improvements, deep-dive debugging, and data-driven issue resolution while leveraging AI tools to boost speed and quality. This position works within GM’s Mechatronic Software Platform to enable robust, scalable vehicle software. You’ll influence roadmaps and mentor others as a senior individual contributor. Compensation / Benefits * Evaluate Boot software and provide technical recommendations * Own end-to-end Boot software design and integration strategy for new controller architectures * Lead advanced integration to bring new controllers to operation (board bring-up, flash programming, startup validation) * Collaborate with solution and systems teams to evolve Boot requirements * Develop and maintain flash partitioning, memory maps, and OTA/recovery concepts * Lead root-cause analysis of Boot/startup issues and cross-controller dependencies * Mentor Software Integration Leaders (SWILs) and other teams on Boot best practices * Define strategies for flash programming, manufacturing programming flows, and service reprogramming * Collaborate with safety, cybersecurity, diagnostics for architectural compliance * Support creation of standard work and reusable Boot integration assets * Influence portfolio decisions by articulating risks and trade-offs for new architectures Tasks * Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field * 10+ years of embedded software experience in automotive or safety-critical real-time systems * Expertise in MCU/SoC startup and Bootloader design (secure boot, recovery concepts) * Experience with RTOS, memory, clocks, resets, power management, and vehicle interfaces (CAN/LIN/FlexRay/Ethernet) * Deep-dive debugging using JTAG/trace, debuggers, logic analyzers, and low-level logging * Strong systems thinking balancing safety, cybersecurity, diagnostics, performance, and cost Key requirements * Company vehicle program (vehicle evaluation) * Hybrid work arrangement * Relocation benefits * Total Rewards resources * Accommodations on request
