Job description

The Support Services Technician plays a key role in an environmental testing laboratory that analyzes air, water, soil, sediment, tissue, and waste samples to help keep people and the environment safer, healthier, and more sustainable. In this position, you support laboratory operations by preparing and shipping sample media, handling hazardous materials, and maintaining equipment used in analytical testing for a wide range of analytes, including PFAS, metals, VOCs/SVOCs, dioxins/furans, and radiochemicals. You work closely with multiple departments in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment that emphasizes safety, quality, and operational efficiency., * Clean and prepare sample media to meet laboratory quality and safety standards.

  • Package and ship sample media to clients, ensuring accurate labeling, documentation, and timely dispatch.
  • Build and repair flow controllers and related components used in sampling and testing processes.
  • Assemble and dismantle shipping boxes and packaging materials for sample media and equipment.
  • Handle and transport hazardous materials safely, including cryogenic Dewars of liquid nitrogen, compressed gases such as helium, nitrogen, and hydrogen, sharps, and liquid solvents such as methylene chloride, acetonitrile, and acetone.
  • Read, understand, and reference the Chemical Hygiene Plan and Injury and Illness Prevention Program to guide safe work practices.
  • Adhere consistently to safety protocols, standard operating procedures, and operational guidelines.
  • Demonstrate strong accuracy and attention to detail in all tasks, including documentation and order processing.
  • Perform the physical requirements of the role, including lifting, standing, bending, and repetitive hand and arm use to complete moderate physical work.
  • Use time effectively to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a high-production environment.
  • Interpret and follow oral and written instructions to complete daily assignments and special tasks.
  • Perform other support duties as assigned to ensure smooth laboratory and logistics operations.
  • Collaborate closely with all departments to support workflow, resolve issues, and maintain effective communication.
  • Maintain an organized work area and contribute to continuous improvement in processes and efficiency.
  • Follow quality control expectations and support a culture focused on safety, reliability, and organized problem solving.
  • Utilize shipping provider websites and internal systems to process orders and track shipments.
  • Assist with additional duties as needed to support overall laboratory and support services operations.

  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds on a continuous basis.
  • Ability to push carts with objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods and perform moderate physical work, including working upright, bending, and using hands and arms repetitively.
  • Sufficient hearing and speaking ability to listen effectively and communicate in person and by phone.

This is a full-time, on-site position in an environmental testing laboratory that supports clients across the United States. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with possible overtime and weekend work when business needs require it. The laboratory houses a variety of chemicals and materials necessary for environmental analysis, including cryogenic Dewars of liquid nitrogen, compressed gases such as helium, nitrogen, and hydrogen, sharps, and solvents such as methylene chloride, acetonitrile, and acetone. You work in a setting where safe handling, storage, and transport of these materials are essential, guided by a detailed Chemical Hygiene Plan and Injury and Illness Prevention Program. The role involves frequent standing, lifting up to 35 pounds, pushing carts up to 50 pounds, bending, and repetitive use of hands and arms, reflecting a moderately physical work environment. You collaborate with multiple departments and use computers, internet software, Microsoft Office, and shipping provider websites as part of daily tasks.
