Release of Information Technician

The ROI Technician is a part of a team of professionals dedicated to ensuring the integrity, accessibility, and compliance of patient health records. You will play a critical role in supporting patient care by driving accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to regulations across the Release of Information function; to deliver the most remarkable patient experience, in every dimension, every time.

What You will Do:

• Perform all technical functions related to the release of information process as well as low complexity release types.
• Enter/log request into computer systems appropriately to avoid or eliminate duplicate entry.
• Perform release status follow-up by responding to all status requests via fax, mail, or telephone.
• Review all returned mail to obtain accurate postal information and process all incoming mail.
• Ensure release of information requests are processed in compliance with all governing policies/laws/regulations.
• Communicate with patient financial services to follow up on any payment concerns or issues.
• Foster working relationships with other departments to ensure timely resolution related to any issues within assigned workflows.
• Foster respect for patient privacy by maintaining confidentiality in all phases of the release of information process/release of protected health information.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 1+ years of experience in a hospital-based Health Information Management (HIM) department, large outpatient clinic, or equivalent work experience with similar job assignments/ role/ responsibilities, required.
• Working knowledge of HIPAA requirements/federal/state regulations and medical terminology.
• Working knowledge of acute and ambulatory medical records.
• Ability to meet standardized productivity metrics/goals.
• Ability to successfully complete generic and department specific skills validation and competency testing.
• Excellent analytical/critical thinking skills; comfortable with a technology driven/computer-based workflow.
• Professional demeanor, excellent verbal/written/interpersonal communication, and customer service skills.

Preferred:

• Experience with the EPIC EHR and/or Hyland OnBase scanning application.
