Job description
We are seeking an Associate Data Analyst to support our team as we advise a major logistics provider in Brussels. The primary focus of this role is to examine operational and financial data to determine if the assumptions driving their current expansion strategy are supported by actual performance.
About Blue Oak Consulting Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks. Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure. We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense. Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism. We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction., This is a full time, permanent position that is conducted entirely through remote work. As an Associate Data Analyst, you will work closely with our principals to handle the technical heavy lifting of our engagements. Your day will involve taking large, often messy data sets and turning them into structured models that reveal the truth behind a business case. We value accuracy and a methodical approach over speed or flashy presentations. Because we are a small firm, you will see exactly how your analysis influences the advice we give to our clients.
What You Will Be Doing
- Cleaning and structuring raw data from a logistics provider to identify patterns in pricing and cost.
- Building and maintaining financial models in Excel to test the sensitivity of various business assumptions.
- Comparing historical performance data against projected growth figures to find inconsistencies.
- Investigating specific line items in a P&L to understand where capital might be trapped or wasted.
- Preparing clear tables and charts that summarize your findings for the senior team.
- Participating in internal team reviews where we stress test our own conclusions and logic.
- Assisting with the documentation of our analytical process to ensure every finding is defensible.
- Researching industry benchmarks to provide context for the client data we are analyzing.
Requirements
- A degree in finance, economics, statistics, or a related field with a focus on quantitative analysis.
- Strong skills in Excel, including familiarity with lookups, pivot tables, and basic financial modeling.
- A natural curiosity to look under the hood and understand how a business actually makes money.
- The ability to stay organized while managing different versions of complex data sets.
- A skeptical mindset that leads you to double check results when they look too good to be true.
- Comfort working in a fully remote environment and staying productive without constant supervision.
- Clear written communication skills for explaining technical findings in plain English.
Benefits & conditions
- A competitive salary that is attractive for an entry level professional starting their career.
- Direct access to experienced principals who will mentor you on financial discipline and advisory work.
- The chance to work on high stakes projects where your analysis directly impacts commercial outcomes.
- A working environment that rewards honesty and evidence over corporate posturing.
- Opportunity to learn specialized modeling techniques used in high level financial advisory.
Working at Blue Oak Consulting means being part of a team that values substance. We do not hide behind complex terminology or vague strategy. We focus on the numbers and the mechanics of how value is created or lost. This role is a chance to build a foundation in financial analysis by working on real problems for a major logistics provider and other clients who need an honest, independent perspective on their most important decisions.
