Data Enterprise Reporter

In this role, you will acquire, analyze and make public government data and information that serves the public interest, focusing on taxes, budgets, expenses and salary and compensation data from municipalities, schools and universities, state agencies, boards, districts and commissions.

Working with reporters and editors in local newsrooms, you will be responsible for interpreting complex financial information and publishing databases in formats easily navigated by the public. You will spot local and national trends in the data, point newsrooms to unique stories and support presentation through smart visualizations.

Along with data analysis and story development, you will work with product, audience, programming and AI teams to perfect the delivery and utility of government information shared on platform and across shared channels., * Retrieve and analyze large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights.

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in journalism, data science or statistics or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least three years of newsroom experience.
• Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, Python or R.
• Expertise with AI tools and proven scrapping experience and results.
• Strong understanding of data visualization techniques.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Strong reporting skills, with the ability to gather information from people and public records.
• Strong writing skills, along with a demonstrated ability to distill complex matters.
• Able to work cooperatively, meet deadlines and shift gears for multiple tasks.
