Job description

Become a part of our caring community as a Lead Full Stack Engineer specializing in Platform Quality and Reliability. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for owning and maintaining the operational health of the NBA platform post-deployment. This is a hands-on engineering position that requires active contribution to code development, testing, and system monitoring. Your primary focus will be ensuring that the platform remains scalable, resilient, and highly available by implementing rigorous testing frameworks, observability practices, and failure management strategies. You will collaborate closely with delivery pods and cross-functional teams to define quality gates, manage contractor resources, and proactively identify potential bottlenecks or failure points before they impact users. Your expertise will help uphold the platform’s performance standards and ensure continuous improvement in reliability and operational excellence. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer, * Own and maintain platform reliability, including uptime, performance, and resilience across all NBA platform services

  • Actively develop, ship, and review production code in collaboration with your team
  • Build and sustain automated testing frameworks across various testing layers, establishing standards and quality gates
  • Manage the platform’s observability stack, including logging, alerting, and monitoring, ensuring continuous visibility into system health
  • Design and enforce error handling and failure management protocols to systematically catch, log, and resolve issues
  • Evaluate system components under load, leading scalability engineering efforts to support growth in users and data throughput
  • Define and enforce criteria for handoff and quality gates before deployment of new services or features
  • Manage and review the work of quality and reliability engineers within your pod, setting clear expectations and standards
  • Coordinate with cross-pod teams to identify and resolve quality and reliability concerns early in the development lifecycle
  • Lead initiatives to improve system robustness, scalability, and operational efficiency

Requirements

  • 2+ years of project leadership experience
  • 6+ years of full stack software engineering experience, including 1-2 years focused on platform reliability or site reliability engineering
  • 8+ years of progressive technical experience as a senior developer in large-scale projects
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining automated testing infrastructure (unit, integration, end-to-end testing)
  • Strong understanding of observability practices: structured logging, distributed tracing, metrics, and alerting
  • Experience designing error handling and failure management patterns across distributed systems
  • Proven ability to lead small teams or pods and manage contractor resources effectively
  • Comfort working across a polyglot stack including Java, Python, Node.js, and TypeScript
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate quality risks to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Passion for contributing to organizational improvement and consumer experience enhancement
  • Familiarity with AI productivity tools such as Claude, Copilot, or similar

Preferred qualifications include residing in Boston, MA, a Master’s degree, experience with Kubernetes, Kafka, event-driven architectures, regulated industries, chaos engineering, Azure DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines.
