Job description

The Junior Data Operations Analyst supports our core advisory work by ensuring the data behind every investment thesis or pricing model is accurate and logical. As we assist our Brussels-based partner with complex commercial assessments, this role focuses on the mechanical integrity of financial datasets and the assumptions they carry. About Blue Oak Consulting Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks. Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure. We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense. Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism. We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction., This is a full-time, fully remote position where you will handle the foundational data tasks that inform our advice. In this role, you are not just cleaning spreadsheets: you are helping us find the friction in a business model by looking at how data points connect. You will work closely with our principals to organize raw inputs from clients and turn them into clear, usable models. Because we are a small firm, you will see the direct results of your analysis in the recommendations we deliver to senior executives. The work requires a mix of technical precision and the ability to think critically about what the numbers actually represent in a business context. What You Will Be Doing

  • Organizing and validating large sets of financial data to ensure consistency across different reporting periods.
  • Testing the logic of pricing models to see how small changes in assumptions affect overall margin.
  • Cleaning and structuring raw data from ERP and CRM systems into clean formats for financial modeling.
  • Assisting in the creation of sensitivity analyses to show how acquisition targets might perform under stress.
  • Identifying outliers and missing information in client datasets that could skew our findings.
  • Documenting the data sources and methodology used in each project to maintain a clear audit trail.
  • Supporting the team in building visual representations of capital allocation trends and revenue patterns.
  • Verifying that the P&L data provided matches the operational reality of the business units being studied.

Requirements

  • A university degree in finance, economics, statistics, or a related field involving quantitative analysis.
  • Strong comfort with Excel, including the ability to use lookups, pivot tables, and logical formulas.
  • A natural curiosity for how businesses make money and where they might be losing it.
  • High attention to detail, specifically the ability to spot errors or inconsistencies in numerical data.
  • Good communication skills, as you will need to explain your data findings clearly to the rest of the team.
  • The ability to work independently in a remote environment and manage your own tasks effectively.
  • A skeptical mindset that questions whether a data point makes sense before accepting it as fact.
  • Basic familiarity with financial statements like the balance sheet and income statement.

Benefits & conditions

  • Competitive and attractive compensation that reflects the importance of this role to our firm.
  • Direct mentorship from principals with decades of experience in high-stakes financial advisory.
  • The chance to work on high-profile projects for our Brussels-based partner and other international clients.
  • Practical training in financial modeling and commercial interrogation techniques.
  • An environment where logical arguments and data-backed findings are valued over seniority.
  • Continuous exposure to different industries, from healthcare to industrial manufacturing.

About the company

Blue Oak Consulting operates on the belief that clarity is the most valuable asset in business. We stay involved through the execution phase because we know that theory often struggles when it meets real world friction. As a Junior Data Operations Analyst, your work will be the bedrock of this clarity, helping our clients make decisions based on evidence rather than optimistic projections. We value honesty and financial discipline above all else.
