Job description

We are seeking an experienced IT Environment Manager to oversee and manage complex IT environments across both on-premises and cloud platforms.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across infrastructure, networks, cloud services and security, while working closely with internal stakeholders and third-party managed service providers. You will play a key role in maintaining secure, resilient and compliant IT environments while supporting ongoing transformation and improvement initiatives., * Oversee enterprise IT environments across on-premises infrastructure and cloud platforms.

  • Manage networks, Servers, cloud platforms and associated security controls.
  • Lead infrastructure upgrades, optimisation and migration activities.
  • Work closely with third-party suppliers and managed service providers to ensure technology environments are maintained effectively.
  • Define, implement and maintain technical standards, processes and controls.
  • Ensure infrastructure and cloud environments comply with applicable security policies and standards.
  • Provide technical input into architecture, solution design and infrastructure decisions.
  • Review and assess supplier proposals, technical designs and solution architectures, ensuring design integrity and compliance.
  • Manage risks associated with IT infrastructure and technology assets, implementing appropriate mitigation controls.
  • Support improvements across performance, resilience, life cycle management and incident response.
  • Collaborate with Cyber Security, Enterprise Architecture, Information Governance and other key stakeholders.
  • Support ongoing IT transformation, modernisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage the life cycle of configuration items and maintain accurate configuration information.
  • Support compliance with Cyber Essentials Plus and wider cyber security requirements.
  • Contribute to governance, assurance and reporting activities across the IT environment.
  • Act as an effective technical partner when managing third-party MSP relationships.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of IT experience within infrastructure, network administration, systems engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in an Infrastructure Manager, IT Environment Manager or similar leadership position.
  • Strong experience managing both on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Broad technical knowledge across:
  • Windows Server
  • VMware
  • Storage technologies
  • Active Directory
  • Microsoft Entra ID
  • Microsoft Azure
  • Strong networking knowledge, including HPE, Fortinet, WAN connectivity and network security.
  • Strong understanding of IT security, backup, disaster recovery and infrastructure resilience.
  • Experience working within an outsourced IT/managed service environment.
  • Proven experience managing and challenging third-party suppliers or MSPs.
  • Experience in infrastructure design, project management and technical project delivery.
  • Strong understanding of compliance requirements within regulated or security-sensitive environments.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective risk mitigation controls, particularly for Legacy technology environments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Comfortable operating within a Matrix environment and collaborating across multiple technical and business functions.

Desirable Experience

  • Knowledge of emerging technologies and their impact on existing IT estates and future solutions, including areas such as AI and quantum technologies.
  • Experience developing IT security reporting and management information for senior stakeholders.
  • Experience acting as an intelligent customer when managing third-party MSPs.
  • Experience within government, regulated or highly security-conscious environments.
  • Knowledge of Cyber Essentials Plus, GovAssure and CAF security requirements.
