Job description

Apex Systems is seeking a Data Center Technician II to support network infrastructure operations within a large-scale hyperscale data center environment in New Albany, Ohio. This position is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and documenting critical network hardware and cabling infrastructure that supports mission-critical operations., * Install, rack, stack, cable, and deploy network equipment including switches, routers, patch panels, and related infrastructure

  • Perform hardware replacements and break/fix activities on network devices and components
  • Install, label, route, test, and troubleshoot both fiber optic and copper cabling
  • Validate network connectivity, asset records, rack elevations, port maps, and installation documentation
  • Support hardware upgrades, deployments, decommissions, and Moves, Adds, and Changes (MAC work)
  • Assist network engineering teams through Smart Hands support and remote troubleshooting activities
  • Maintain accurate documentation, ticket updates, inventory records, and work-order completion notes
  • Support receiving, inventory management, equipment staging, and asset tracking processes
  • Follow established operational, safety, and customer procedures while working in a mission-critical environment

Requirements

  • 1+ year of hands-on technical experience in one or more of the following:
  • Data center operations
  • Hardware installation
  • Rack and stack
  • Telecommunications
  • Structured cabling
  • Low-voltage systems
  • Technical field service
  • Break/fix support
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts, including switches, routers, fiber optics, and copper connectivity
  • Experience working with technical documentation, tickets, asset records, or inventory management systems
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently while following documented procedures
  • Ability to pass required background screenings and site access requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting network infrastructure within a data center or critical environment
  • Experience installing and replacing switches, optics, transceivers, power supplies, or network hardware components
  • Fiber optic installation, testing, cleaning, and troubleshooting experience
  • Familiarity with Cisco, Arista, Juniper, Mellanox, NVIDIA, or similar networking platforms
  • Technical certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, BICSI, FOA, or OSHA 10
  • Willingness to relocate to New Albany, OH or travel to site-based projects

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds regularly and move heavier equipment with assistance
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
  • Ability to distinguish cable and fiber color codes
  • Comfortable working in varying data center temperatures and environments
  • Must be able to wear required PPE, including safety boots, hard hat, safety glasses, and high-visibility gear
  • Ability to support rotating schedules, maintenance windows, nights, weekends, and on-call activities as needed
