Job description

The Technology Specialist will work under the direction of the district Director of Technology to perform the following:

  1. Install and support technology related equipment including, but not limited to computers, monitors, peripheral and tablet devices.
  2. Deliver new equipment, relocate and reconfigure existing equipment.
  3. Install operating systems, network client software, and application software.
  4. Configure devices to access network resources including servers, printers, and the Internet.
  5. Perform operating system, application software, and network client upgrades including Internet browser plug-ins and assistant programs.
  6. Troubleshoot hardware and software failures and resolve in a timely manner.
  7. Perform client data conversion, recovery, and transfer tasks.
  8. Assist the Director of Technology in the management of the district’s phone system.
  9. Assist the Director of Technology in the management of the district’s security system.
  10. Assist the Director of Technology in the management of the district’s device management system.
  11. Assist the Director of Technology in the management of the technical aspects of PowerSchool.
  12. Assist the Director of Technology in the management of the district’s website.
  13. Assist all district staff members with technology-related questions and route issues to appropriate team members.
  14. Record inventory information (including serial numbers and any other identification required) when equipment is installed, removed or moved, and forward such information to appropriate district personnel.
  15. Assist in facilitating staff development activities (when needed) including compiling district “how-to” manuals from materials developed for these activities.
  16. Communicate in a timely and positive manner with all staff members.
  17. Operate in a collaborative manner as a member of the district technology team.
  18. Participate in training programs as provided by the district to keep skills current with technological developments.
  19. Maintain confidentiality in the management of the district’s network under the supervision of the Director of Technology and the Superintendent in all matters but especially in the areas of student records, staff records, Business Office financial records, and data used in the negotiation of collective bargaining agreements.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned from time to time by the Director of Technology or district administrative staff.

Requirements

  1. Demonstrated ability to install, maintain, and troubleshoot operating system, network client, and application software.
  2. Demonstrated ability to install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot client and network hardware.
  3. Demonstrated ability to assist staff in the use of technology and provide guidance/and or instruction in the use of application software.
  4. Excellent organizational skills.
  5. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Ability to maintain confidentiality in working with district files and databases.
  7. Willingness to participate in staff development.
  8. An interest in working with people and a desire to develop positive relationships with colleagues.
  9. Prior software and hardware training/experience, preferred., The Technology Specialist must have prior work experience in the configuration, setup, troubleshooting and repair of computer hardware, mobile devices, software and peripherals in a Google, Apple and Windows environment. Familiarity with network client configuration in multi-platform environments is preferred. The position requires tasks to be completed in multiple locations within the district (using personal transportation). The ability to lift heavy objects, specifically computer equipment and peripheral devices, for extended periods of time is required.
