Job description

  • Do you want to build a high-performance platform that processes millions of financial transactions every day, safely, securely, and at lightning speed?
  • Would you like to work alongside top-tier engineers (ex-Amazon, Adyen, and Miro, plus successful tech founders) building the next global FinTech scale-up?
  • Do you get excited about greenfield projects, complex distributed systems, and having a direct influence on architecture and product strategy?
  • And do you say yes to €100.000, stock options, and the chance to literally see the value of your own work increase?

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of experience as a backend software engineer
  • Strong knowledge of Core Java (v17/21/25)
  • Experience with Kafka, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, and Docker is a plus
  • Experience designing and building distributed, low-latency systems
  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design
  • Experience in FinTech or mission-critical environments is a strong advantage
  • Completed technical BSc or MSc

About the company

Your Employer: FinTech Scale-Up from Amsterdam with Global Ambition and an Elite Engineering Team

'’The law of the handicap of a head start’‘applies in FinTech too: large established players are slowed down by legacy systems and bureaucracy. Innovation moves slowly. This is exactly where this rapidly growing Amsterdam scale-up steps in. Here, you’ll help build a modern payments platform that outpaces the incumbents in speed, scalability, and reliability. No outdated systems, just the freedom to set new standards for global payment infrastructure.

The team is made up of an exceptional group of engineers (including ex-Amazon, Adyen, and Miro talent), as well as founders who’ve already built successful tech companies before. You won’t just work with smart people; you’ll work with visionaries who know how to turn an idea into a unicorn. The bar is high: clean code, extreme performance, and maximum velocity. With experience, tight collaboration, and smart AI tooling, new ideas move from concept to production in days.

The timing couldn’t be better: the company is transitioning from startup to scale-up. Funding is strong, product-market fit is proven, and the first clients are already live. The coming years will be all about growth, scalability, and technical innovation. Think of designing new payment products, solving global latency challenges, and pushing the limits of what’s possible in modern payment infrastructure., As a Core Java Backend Engineer Amsterdam, you’ll work on the beating heart of the platform. You’ll build low-latency, high-throughput microservices using Core Java 21/25, run everything in Kubernetes, and leverage Kafka and PostgreSQL for event-driven data processing.

You’ll work on challenging topics such as:

  • Designing scalable and secure backend services for international payments.
  • Reducing latency and improving throughput in complex distributed systems.
  • Building security and compliance solutions that meet the highest standards in FinTech.
  • Contributing to architecture, system design, and technical standards across teams.

Because the team is small and autonomous, you’ll have direct influence over decisions that define the future of the platform. No endless meetings or layers of management, here you own your code and your product.
