Job description

  • Do you want to work on modern backend platforms where AI is not about hype or simple wrappers, but about scalable architectures, event-driven systems, orchestration and production-grade software engineering?
  • Do you want to be part of a group of engineers where knowledge sharing, craftsmanship and continuous growth are central, surrounded by colleagues who speak at conferences, contribute to open source and constantly explore the latest developments in software engineering and AI?
  • And do you say yes to a permanent contract from day one, a €5.000 training budget, bi-weekly knowledge-sharing sessions with peers, 3/4 days remote work and an environment where engineering depth truly matters?

Sounds like something for you? Then keep reading., As a Senior Backend Engineer Amsterdam, you help organisations bring modern backend platforms and GenAI systems into production. You build scalable backend services and platform components around foundation models and LLMs, focusing on orchestration, integrations, APIs, event flows and reliability, not on training models themselves.

You work on software architectures where AI capabilities become part of existing software ecosystems. Think backend platforms with RAG pipelines, enterprise integrations, observability tooling and multi-agent orchestration within complex production environments.

Projects are long-term. You remain involved after systems go live and help scale, improve and operationalise them further. This is not about demos or hype, but about serious backend engineering within AI-native platforms.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience as a software engineer or backend engineer
  • Strong experience with, Kotlin Java, Go or other modern backend languages
  • Interest in GenAI systems and already experimenting with them yourself
  • Affinity with AI orchestration, RAG systems or observability
  • Experience with Kafka, Docker, AWS/GCP or modern platform infrastructure
  • You take ownership, communicate strongly and are willing to challenge the status quo

Benefits & conditions

  • Salary between €85.000 and €97.500 depending on experience and impact
  • 5% bonus = €102.500
  • Permanent contract from day one
  • 3/4 days remote work per week
  • 25 vacation days
  • 4% pension contribution
  • €5.000 annual training budget
  • +6 extra days for training/conferences
  • +5 innovation days per year
  • Bi-weekly knowledge-sharing sessions
  • New laptop and phone every 2 years
  • €45 work-from-home allowance

About the company

Your employer: where modern backend engineering and GenAI come together

You’ll join a compact group of highly skilled software engineers helping organisations solve complex backend, platform and AI challenges. This is not traditional consultancy where you work through isolated tickets, but long-term projects where you help organisations design, build and scale modern software an AI-platforms. You are hired for your knowledge and expertise.

Over the coming years, one topic will dominate: operationalising GenAI within enterprise software. Organisations are rapidly experimenting with AI, but are running into serious engineering challenges around scalability, observability, integrations, security and governance. You will help turn isolated AI experiments into real production platforms that are reliable, maintainable and scalable.

Technically, you’ll work with modern backend stacks such as Kotlin, Java, Go, Kubernetes, Kafka and cloud-infrastructure. AI tooling such as OpenAI/Anthropic APIs, LangChain4j, Spring AI and vector databases are used as part of broader backend architectures, never as the goal itself.

What also makes this environment unique is its culture. Engineers actively share knowledge, speak at conferences, contribute to open source and continuously invest in their craft. Every two weeks, the team comes together to discuss architecture, AI systems, new patterns and engineering best practices. People stay here for years. And those who leave? They move into CTO positions, start their own companies or join top-tier tech organisations. This is an environment that accelerates careers.
