Job description
Seeking a Solutions Architect II to lead the design and implementation of enterprise omnichannel initiatives, with a primary focus on Order Management Systems (OMS) and the broader omnichannel order lifecycle. This role defines and drives end-to-end architecture for order capture, distributed order management (DOM), fulfillment orchestration, inventory visibility, and post-purchase experiences, ensuring solutions are scalable, resilient, and aligned with business and customer experience strategies.
You will serve as the bridge between business strategy and technical execution, translating complex omnichannel opportunities into actionable architectural blueprints that deliver measurable business value. This is a hands-on technical role requiring both architecture design and active participation in configurations, integrations, and system implementations while partnering across technology, merchandising, supply chain, store operations, and digital commerce teams.
The role demands deep application-level expertise beyond general OMS familiarity, including ownership of integration design, end-to-end data flow analysis, and system configuration optimization alongside engineering, product, and operations stakeholders.
This role requires active use of AI productivity tools to accelerate delivery and promote engineering best practices., * Define and own enterprise omnichannel architecture aligned with business priorities and technology roadmaps.
- Develop reference architectures, integration patterns, and design standards for order management, fulfillment orchestration, and inventory availability.
- Translate business requirements across stores, e-commerce, supply chain, and customer experience into scalable solution architectures.
- Partner with business, product, and engineering teams to prioritize omnichannel capabilities such as Buy Online Pickup In Store (BOPIS), Buy Online Return In Store (BORIS), same-day fulfillment, ship-from-store, and endless aisle.
- Champion API-first, event-driven, and microservices-based architecture principles.
OMS Design & Implementation
- Lead architecture, configuration, and implementation of enterprise Order Management solutions, including Order Management, Store Fulfillment, and Inventory Visibility capabilities.
- Design order routing, sourcing rules, fulfillment workflows, and exception management processes.
- Establish configuration and extension standards, including orchestration flows, service mappings, fulfillment strategies, and business rules.
- Define upgrade, patch, and release management standards to ensure platform stability and continuous improvement.
- Evaluate adjacent platforms and integration opportunities across commerce, merchandising, warehouse management, and supply chain systems.
System Integration & API Design
- Architect integrations between OMS and upstream/downstream systems, including e-commerce, POS, WMS, ERP, CRM, logistics providers, and customer-facing applications.
- Define API standards using REST, GraphQL, and event-driven architectures.
- Design real-time inventory visibility solutions across stores, distribution centers, and in-transit inventory.
- Lead integration strategies for logistics, fulfillment, and third-party partners.
- Establish governance practices including API versioning, schema management, error handling, and monitoring standards.
Fulfillment & Store Operations Architecture
- Architect omnichannel fulfillment capabilities including BOPIS, curbside pickup, ship-from-store, ship-to-store, and endless aisle.
- Design distributed order management logic to optimize inventory usage, fulfillment capacity, geographic proximity, and cost.
- Define returns and reverse logistics architectures.
- Ensure fulfillment workflows integrate effectively with store systems and associate-facing tools.
- Drive fraud management and payment processing architecture throughout the order lifecycle.
Performance, Scalability & Observability
- Define non-functional requirements including scalability, availability, latency, disaster recovery, and resilience objectives.
- Establish monitoring, observability, and alerting frameworks for order and fulfillment systems.
- Design load testing, capacity planning, and peak volume readiness strategies.
- Partner with platform teams to implement logging, monitoring, and distributed tracing capabilities.
- Create operational runbooks and automated response procedures for critical service failures.
Data Architecture & Reporting
- Define enterprise data models for orders, shipments, returns, inventory events, and customer interactions.
- Architect data pipelines supporting operational reporting and advanced analytics.
- Ensure order and fulfillment data is available for customer-facing experiences and business intelligence reporting.
- Establish governance standards covering ownership, retention, access controls, and privacy requirements.
Technology Evaluation & Governance
- Lead build-versus-buy evaluations for omnichannel capabilities.
- Assess commerce, OMS, fulfillment, and logistics technologies.
- Develop vendor evaluation criteria and participate in technology selection processes.
- Establish architecture governance practices, decision documentation standards, and review processes.
- Partner with security, compliance, and enterprise architecture teams to ensure alignment with organizational standards.
Technical Leadership & Delivery
- Collaborate with engineering, integration, quality assurance, and platform teams to ensure successful solution delivery.
- Provide hands-on implementation guidance including API specifications, data models, and integration patterns.
- Conduct architecture reviews and design sessions focused on scalability, security, performance, and maintainability.
- Mentor engineering teams on omnichannel architecture and integration best practices.
- Align technical roadmaps with business objectives and communicate risks and trade-offs effectively.
