Job description

Entarian is seeking a motivated individual to provide network engineering support for NOAA’s satellite mission networks. Duties will include support for mission operations, routine maintenance, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and assistance to implement tech refresh and integration for new subsystems. The Network Engineer will be expected to plan and coordinate tasks, identify dependencies, mitigate risks, execute least-impact procedures, perform analysis, implement configurations, and create and update documentation and diagrams.

Specific duties: Perform routine tasks and execute procedures to operate and maintain network infrastructure hardware and software

  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve operational problems in the LAN/WAN infrastructure
  • Support integration efforts for architectural improvements, new subsystems, migrations, OS upgrades, hardware upgrades, and others
  • Document configuration changes in the configuration management system
  • Monitor and report device health and status, bandwidth utilization rates, uptime, outage and anomaly tracking, and threat detection/prevention
  • Document problem resolution activities in the ticketing system
  • Review and maintain documents and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Provide on-call and after-hours support when required

Requirements

  • BS in engineering, computer science, related discipline, or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience
  • Knowledge of fault-tolerance and high-availability, stateful failover, open standards solutions, system performance, and Continuity of Operations (COOP)
  • Knowledge of Next-generation firewalls (NGFW), security zones, and defense-in-depth
  • Configure, optimize, and troubleshoot routing protocols including OSPF and BGP
  • Configure, optimize, and troubleshoot network protocols including VRRP (or HSRP), STP, LACP, MLAG (or vPC), Dot1q, and others
  • Knowledge and familiarity with cabling standards such as TIA/EIA, ISO/IEC, IEEE, and others
  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident who has lived in the United States at least 3 out of the last 5 years and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to access applicable government facilities and systems.
