Job description
- Provide technical support and advice to customers, responding to enquiries in person, by telephone and email.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues effectively and efficiently, following up with customers to ensure issues are fully resolved.
- Classify and prioritise technical problems, documenting causes and implementing appropriate remedies and preventative measures.
- Identify and analyse wider technical and systems issues, working with internal and external specialists to develop appropriate solutions where required.
- Patch, update and maintain Microsoft Windows Server operating systems within a Windows Hyper-V 2019 environment, ensuring appropriate security measures are implemented.
- Support and manage services within the Microsoft Azure cloud environment.
- Support the delivery of in-house applications using Microsoft technologies, including DevOps pipelines and Company Portal.
- Manage and configure TCP/IP network equipment, including switches and other network infrastructure.
- Manage and maintain on-premises Microsoft Exchange 2016 (or later) and cloud-based Microsoft Office 365 email systems, including mailboxes, mailbox permissions and distribution lists.
- Manage and maintain Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft cloud identity services.
- Investigate system alerts and provide appropriate responses, supporting ongoing monitoring of cyber security controls.
- Play an active role in day-to-day operational cyber security requirements and support the ITSO role with cyber security-related activities.
- Assist with disaster recovery planning and the development of contingency plans in response to security breaches and other incidents.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of standard Windows 10 (or later) device configurations to support the security and integrity of information systems and services.
- Support secure remote access solutions and smart devices.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with senior stakeholders, providing specialist advice, guidance and appropriate challenge on matters within the area of responsibility.
- Manage information and records in accordance with established policies, procedures and statutory requirements.
- Comply with all relevant organisational policies and procedures, including Equal Opportunities and Dignity at Work, and complete mandatory training requirements.
- Carry out any other duties reasonably required in line with the responsibilities of the role.
Requirements
Are you an experienced ICT professional with a strong background in infrastructure support, server and network management and cyber security? Do you have experience working with Microsoft Windows Server, Azure, Active Directory, Microsoft 365 and TCP/IP networks? If so, we’d love to hear from you!, * Hold an HND in Computing or another discipline relevant to Information & Communications Technology, with at least 50% computing content*.
AND
- Have at least 1 year’s experience working in a challenging Infrastructure Support or Service Desk environment.
OR
- Have at least 3 years’ experience working in a challenging Infrastructure Support or Service Desk environment**.
*Only those courses with a computing content of 50% or more will be considered, and applicants must give full details of how the content of the course meets this requirement.
**Experience gained as part of a work placement may be included.
Applicants must demonstrate at least 1 year’s experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Managing Microsoft Windows Server 2012 (or later) operating systems within a Windows Hyper-V 2019 environment, together with Microsoft Exchange 2016 (or later), on-premises email, Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Azure environments.
- Experience using Microsoft Defender and Sentinel.
Supporting and administering TCP/IP-based networks, including experience with at least two of the following:
- Remote access equipment.
- Firewalls.
- Switches.
- Routers.
Applicants must also demonstrate:
- The ability to analyse business requirements and develop logical solutions that meet customer needs, while proactively identifying opportunities to improve work processes and service delivery.
- Strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical computer concepts clearly to non-technical customers.
- The ability to plan and organise a varied, demanding and unpredictable workload, delivering high-quality work in accordance with ICT standards and best practice.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team, managing and influencing people and resources to achieve agreed plans and objectives.
