Job description
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Part-time IT/Cat 5,6 Cabling Technician to join our dynamic team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on structured cabling installations, network wiring, and telecommunications systems across various client sites. You will play a vital part in ensuring the seamless setup and maintenance of high-quality communication infrastructure, supporting our commitment to delivering reliable connectivity solutions. Ideal candidates are energetic, eager to learn, and possess a strong foundation in computer networking and electrical systems., * Install, terminate, and test Cat5 and Cat6 network cabling in commercial and industrial environments
- Assist with the installation of fiber optic systems, including splicing and connectorization
- Use diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters, cable testers, and telecommunications testing equipment to troubleshoot issues
- Follow schematics and technical diagrams to ensure accurate cabling layouts and system configurations
- Support the setup of Ethernet networks, Cisco routers, Juniper devices, and VoIP communication systems
- Conduct field service activities including equipment troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance
- Assist with the installation of low-voltage electrical wiring for telecommunications and data systems
- Utilize hand tools and power tools safely to complete cabling tasks efficiently
- Perform radio frequency (RF) testing to verify signal integrity in wireless communication setups
- Support the installation of telecommunication equipment such as Avaya systems and network switches
Requirements
- Prior experience in structured cabling installation or telecommunications is preferred but not mandatory; training will be provided for motivated learners
- Familiarity with computer networking concepts including LAN setup, Ethernet wiring, and network equipment troubleshooting
- Knowledge of fiber splicing techniques and fiber optic system installation processes
- Hands-on experience with telephony systems such as VoIP and traditional telephony is a plus
- Ability to read technical schematics, wiring diagrams, and network layouts accurately
- Strong understanding of electrical safety practices related to low-voltage electrical wiring and AC/DC electrical systems
- Excellent customer service skills with a professional attitude when interacting with clients on-site
