Job description
Reporting to the Metadata Supervisor, this position serves as a subject matter expert in series and related data elements as well as providing oversight to the systems and processes necessary for Series materials to include: researching, selecting and verifying appropriate titles and for the training, maintenance and ongoing workflow necessary to support the data driven demand for these materials.
- Responsible for monitoring and updating data sets to implement Series offerings for Collection Development and Cataloging.
- Identifies new series for FASTips and Series cuttering.
- Offers guidance as needed not only for series data but also for other related data elements such as age range, classification and descriptors.
- Updates data sets in Oracle including assigning contributors, Dewey and/or LC classification numbers, appropriate subject headings, geographic and cultural designators, Fiction genres, age ranges for juvenile materials, etc., pursuant to established coding guidelines and Library of Congress conventions.
- Maintains series and contributor tables and their associated aliases.
- Assists with data corrections, updates, edits and issues as necessary. Assists with other department/division projects and participates in cross-functional problem-solving teams as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or one to three years experience with bibliographic data or data management and/or a combination of education and experience, MLS preferred.
- One to three years of Brodart experience or equivalent experience required.
- Exceptional knowledge of Series required.
- Understanding of use and functionality of bibliographic databases.
- Microsoft Office Suite products (Excel, Access), Internet; Information retrieval and research skills.
- Knowledge of cataloging preferred.
- Ability to maintain high levels of accuracy with attention to detail.
- Demonstrated knowledge of children, teen and adult literature, particularly as it relates to Series genres/formats.
- Ability to multi task and prioritize work flows; strong interpersonal communications.
- Ability to seek continuous improvement in work processes and procedures.
- Normal office environment, close and distant vision, using hands and fingers to handle and feel, talk and hear, sitting, lifting up to 10 lbs. frequently. Standing and walking, lifting up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
