Job description

This architecture firm in Topeka, KS is hiring a Project Manager to lead projects from concept through construction closeout. The role oversees schedules, budgets, client communication, and quality across multidisciplinary teams, and includes mentoring emerging professionals within the firm., The Project Manager will lead projects through the full lifecycle, including planning, programming, design development, construction documents, bidding and negotiation, construction administration, and closeout. This includes developing work plans, tracking milestones, forecasting fees, reviewing invoices, and proactively addressing risks and changes as they arise.

As the primary client liaison, the Project Manager will set expectations, lead presentations, and deliver consistent updates to ensure a strong client experience. The role also involves directing architects, interior designers, and consultants (structural, MEP, civil, and others) to maintain design cohesion and technical accuracy, and assisting with proposals, consultant agreement negotiation, and contract compliance tracking.

The Project Manager will oversee QA/QC reviews, code analysis, and permitting documentation to ensure compliance with firm standards and industry best practices. During construction administration, this includes reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, issuing ASIs, PRs, and COs, conducting site visits and punch lists, and authoring field observation reports. The role also carries responsibility for identifying project risks and developing mitigation strategies, and for maintaining organized project files, meeting minutes, decision logs, and status reports. Mentoring and managing staff, including delegating tasks and supporting professional development, is an ongoing part of the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a related field
  • 8+ years of architectural experience, including at least 2 years leading projects or teams
  • Registered Architect (RA) license (Kansas licensure, or ability to obtain Kansas licensure, required)
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholders simultaneously
  • Strong planning, communication, and mentoring skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project), Bluebeam, and design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, or Photoshop
  • Strong financial acumen, including cost control and budget oversight, * Project Management Certification (e.g., PMP)
  • Experience mentoring junior architects or project staff
  • Experience with stakeholder management on multidisciplinary project teams
