Job description
We are seeking a high-caliber Manufacturing Equipment Engineer to serve as our subject matter expert for automated vehicle fluid-dispensing systems. In this role, you will own the entire capital equipment lifecycle from initial concept design through final production launch. You will define technical requirements, author comprehensive RFQs, select global suppliers, and oversee multi-million-dollar equipment integration projects for essential vehicle media-including brake fluid, refrigerants, and e-drive/battery coolant. This is a dynamic engineering role where you will directly lead Factory and Site Acceptance Testing (FAT/SAT), manage utility interfaces using CAD, and drive the physical commissioning of systems under tight launch timelines. If you thrive on managing technical suppliers and building high-precision, automated fluid-filling systems from the ground up, this opportunity is your chance to shape the next generation of automotive manufacturing. What You’ll Do:
- Define filling equipment requirements. Translate fill media, quantity, accuracy, cycle-time, and traceability requirements into complete equipment requirement definitions (e.g. for fuel, coolant, brake, refrigerant, air-suspension, and battery/e-drive coolant fill)
- Develop fill-system concepts and validate feasibility. Own concept development - including vacuum-fill, integrated leak/pressure-decay testing, and media supply and distribution - and prepare feasibility studies and capital cost estimates that inform client investment decisions.
- Lead supplier identification, RFQ, and bid evaluation. Identify qualified fill-system suppliers, prepare and issue RFQ packages, evaluate bids technically, and deliver sourcing recommendations.
- Coordinate suppliers to program targets. Drive supplier performance through the build, and align media-supply, utility, and layout interfaces with other trades.
- Plan and coordinate installation. Develop installation scope and sequence and coordinate suppliers, trades, and site interfaces incl. utilities, media distribution, ventilation, and safety systems.
- Direct FAT and SAT. Plan and lead Factory and Site Acceptance Tests, holding equipment to fill-accuracy, leak-tightness, cycle-time, and safety acceptance criteria before release.
- Lead commissioning of filling equipment. Coordinate suppliers through commissioning, dry and wet runs, media introduction, and capability testing to prove performance against specification under production conditions.
- Govern design reviews and engineering changes. Lead design reviews and design buy-offs and control engineering changes.
- Drive ramp-up and handover. Resolve launch issues during ramp-up and execute a structured handover of equipment and responsibility to operations and maintenance.
- Ensure compliance and documentation. Verify that filling systems meet applicable requirements, deliver complete engineering documentation, and support operator and maintenance training.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Electrical, or Automation Engineering, or a closely related discipline - or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience.
- Minimum 5 years of equipment planning or manufacturing engineering experience in automotive assembly, including hands-on installation and/or commissioning of production equipment.
- Direct experience with fluid fill systems (for example: fuel, coolant, brake, refrigerant, air suspension, or battery/e-drive coolant).
- Demonstrated experience coordinating equipment suppliers through installation and commissioning to a production launch.
- Proven ability to author technical specifications and prepare RFQ and technical bid-evaluation documentation.
- Proficiency with CAD or plant-layout tools (AutoCAD or MicroStation).
- Demonstrated project management capability across scope, schedule, and budget with multiple suppliers.
- Effective written and verbal communication in English, including client-facing presentation.
