Job description

(Employees assigned to St. Louis Lambert International Airport may be eligible for a commuting allowance of $180.00 bi-weekly.), Incumbents in this position are responsible for complex programming and installing duties/projects and instructing and monitoring other programmers. Duties include designing, programming, testing and maintaining network security applications., * Handling client environments supporting 25-500+ endpoints.

  • Deploying and supporting Windows Server, virtualization, Microsoft 365, and Azure environments.
  • Configuring and supporting VPN technologies including IPSec site-to-site VPN, and remote access VPN for secure connectivity.
  • Handling setup and configuring VM MS Clustering.
  • Designing and implementing solutions across servers, networking, wireless, and security.
  • Monitoring network traffic for anomalous behavior and participating in incident response activities alongside the security team.
  • Collaborating with the security team to remediate vulnerabilities and implement network-level security controls.

Requirements

  • Experience in systems administration or networking.
  • Strong networking fundamentals (IP, VLANs, routing, wireless, firewalling).
  • Experience with Advanced Windows Server, Active Directory, DHCP,DNS, Hyper-V, Failover Clustering, and Microsoft 365/Azure.
  • Working knowledge of SAN protocol ISCI, FCP, FCoE.
  • Data Utilization: Requires the ability to perform mid-level data analysis including the ability to audit, deduce, assess, conclude and appraise. Requires discretion in determining and referencing such established criteria to define consequences and develop alternatives.
  • Human Interaction: Requires the ability to persuade, convince, influence, train and monitor other computer users, in favor of a desired outcome. Requires the ability to act as a lead person.
  • Equipment, Machinery, Tools and Materials Use: Requires the ability to operate, calibrate, tune and synchronize, and perform complex rapid adjustment on equipment, machinery and tools such as personal computers, modems and/or related materials used in performing essential functions.
  • Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a variety of reference, descriptive and advisory data and information such as specifications, computer documentation, technical operating manuals, procedures, guidelines and non-routine correspondence.
  • Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; calculate percentages, fractions and decimals; perform mathematical operations involving basic algebra.
  • Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems such as leading, teaching, planning, coordinating and controlling. Ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to problem resolution.
  • Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental and/or subjective criteria, as opposed to criteria that are clearly measurable or verifiable.
  • Environmental Factors: Work is normally performed under generally safe and comfortable conditions without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
  • Physical Requirements: Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of objects weighing five (5) to ten (10) pounds, such as computer hardware.
  • Sensory Requirements: Requires the ability to recognize and identify individual characteristics of colors and shapes to perform programming duties, and sounds to detect computer malfunctions.

Other Requirements:

  • A ten year background investigation will be conducted in accordance with FAA regulations for positions at St. Louis Lambert International Airport.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related field; plus three years of experience in network security applications programming. OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferences: Experience with Palo Alto, Aruba and Cisco.

Benefits & conditions

This position is selected for the Hiring Incentive Program. The incentive shall be in the amount of three thousand dollars ($3000.00) upon completion of the probationary period. The hiring incentive will be paid (if funds are available) by the Department/Division which appoints the applicant. The hiring incentive is not available to current City employees.
