Job description

DAI is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with deep SQL and data-integration experience and complementary full-stack development skills.

This is a SQL-first engineering position. The majority of the near-term work will involve SQL development, SSIS packages, data ingestion, transformation, and production workflows. The engineer will also contribute to solutions involving Python, C#, APIs, JSON files, and web applications.

The successful candidate will be able to take a customer specification or business requirement, develop an end-to-end technical plan, and implement the solution within an existing, interconnected processing environment. This role requires someone who understands how changes made at the beginning of a workflow can affect databases, services, applications, files, and production outputs downstream.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex data problems, working across multiple layers of an application, and taking ownership from initial requirements through production deployment.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, develop, enhance, and maintain SQL-first, full-stack applications and data-processing workflows.
  • Develop and support complex SQL queries, stored procedures, database objects, and SSIS packages.
  • Build and maintain processes that ingest, validate, transform, and export structured and semi-structured data, including JSON and other file formats.
  • Translate customer specifications and business requirements into practical, end-to-end technical plans.
  • Analyze upstream and downstream dependencies before implementing changes.
  • Integrate SQL-based workflows with internal and external APIs.
  • Contribute to backend development using Python, C#, or comparable technologies.
  • Support web application development when required.
  • Diagnose and resolve SQL performance, data-quality, integration, and production-processing issues.
  • Apply performance-tuning and code-optimization practices to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Develop appropriate validation, logging, error-handling, recovery, and monitoring processes.
  • Test changes across the complete workflow to ensure they produce the intended downstream results.
  • Collaborate with software engineering, client services, manufacturing, composition, and other business and technical teams.
  • Estimate and prioritize work when requirements are both clearly defined and ambiguous.
  • Deliver medium-to-large projects through the full software development lifecycle, from planning and design through deployment and production support.
  • Assist and guide other engineers while contributing as a hands-on member of the team.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum development processes and help the team meet project milestones and delivery commitments., A successful engineer in this position will:
  • Become productive within an established SQL and SSIS framework.
  • Take ownership of assignments without requiring step-by-step direction.
  • Understand the complete flow of data from initial input through final production output.
  • Anticipate how a proposed change may affect related systems and downstream processes.
  • Deliver reliable, maintainable solutions-not isolated code changes.
  • Communicate risks, dependencies, progress, and technical decisions clearly.
  • Balance immediate delivery needs with long-term system quality and supportability.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Perform all work with honesty and integrity.
  • Take personal responsibility for the quality, productivity, and timeliness of assigned work.
  • Listen attentively and communicate professionally and promptly.
  • Use creativity, analysis, and sound judgment to improve existing practices and develop practical solutions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve shared goals.
  • Support the organization’s values, departmental objectives, and customer commitments.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in an office or home-office environment under the company’s hybrid work arrangement. The position typically requires the ability to sit for extended periods, communicate by telephone or video conference, and use a computer throughout the workday. The role may occasionally require lifting items weighing up to 10 pounds.

Equal Opportunity Employer

Data Analysis Incorporated is an equal opportunity employer. All employment decisions, including hiring, promotion, discipline, and discharge, are based on merit, competence, performance, and business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Four to seven years of professional software development, database engineering, or data-integration experience.
  • Strong, recent hands-on SQL development experience.
  • Experience designing, developing, or maintaining ETL and data-integration workflows.
  • Experience with SSIS or a comparable enterprise data-integration platform.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and support an interconnected, end-to-end processing environment.
  • Experience diagnosing SQL performance issues and applying performance-tuning or code-optimization techniques.
  • Experience taking at least one large project or multiple medium-sized projects from initial requirements through production deployment.
  • Experience working with production systems, including troubleshooting, validation, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Ability to independently translate general specifications into a structured technical approach.
  • Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and nontechnical partners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced experience with Microsoft SQL Server and SSIS.
  • Experience integrating databases with REST APIs or other application services.
  • Experience developing backend solutions with Python or C#.
  • Experience processing JSON or other semi-structured data formats.
  • Experience with Java or another object-oriented programming language.
  • Experience with a modern frontend framework such as Vue.js, Angular, or React.
  • Experience working in manufacturing, document composition, financial services, or another production-oriented environment.
  • Experience mentoring engineers or providing technical guidance to project teams.

Candidates with strong SQL experience in another enterprise database platform, such as Oracle, are encouraged to apply if they can demonstrate the ability to transfer that knowledge to a Microsoft SQL Server environment., * How many years of professional, hands-on SQL development experience do you have?

  • Have you personally developed, modified, and supported SSIS packages in a production environment?
  • Do you have hands-on experience diagnosing and improving SQL performance using techniques such as execution-plan analysis, indexing, query optimization, or stored-procedure tuning?
  • Have you independently taken a SQL-based data integration solution from business requirements through development, testing, production deployment, and support?
