Job description

The Information Technology Specialist II (ITS II) is responsible for performing a wide variety of project management tasks by demonstrating leadership and expertise in providing oversight for complex information technology (IT) projects and providing expert level guidance and project coordination, mentoring, and consulting while ensuring collaboration between groups, allied agencies and private organizations. This position will also aid the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in complying with control agency reporting requirements, project management framework requirements, and California Statewide Information Management Manual (SIMM) requirements. In addition, this position is responsible for providing assistance with project prioritization and resource allocation, and will also act as the Project Manager on complex IT projects and Adult Use of Marijuana Act statewide programs as needed for the Information Technology Section, Project Management Group.

  • Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified before appointment. To satisfy the minimum qualification requirement with education, you must include your unofficial transcript(s)/diploma for initial review. Original diplomas or official, sealed transcripts will be required before the start date. Applicants with foreign transcript(s)/degree(s) must provide a third-party transcript/degree credential evaluation that indicates the number of units to which the foreign coursework is equivalent.

The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) serves as documentation of each applicant’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. Each question must be numbered and addressed in the same order as the questions below. The SOQ must be typed and have 12-point Arial font. The SOQ should demonstrate experience as a system engineer and administrator and match experience listed on the STD 678. A resume must also be included. Please state the following on the top of the SOQ: ā€œI understand that this position is full time in office.ā€ Explain how your experience with automation and project management make you a good fit for this position. Please make sure to reference the duty statement accordingly. This position will require management of several assignments and projects simultaneously. Use the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) method to discuss how you have prioritized your work and managed competing priorities and/or deadlines.

  • Please describe your experience and education with project management, business analysis, and contract management. Include experience using automation and project management tools., Individuals who are currently in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, eligible for reinstatement, have list or LEAP eligibility, are in the process of obtaining list eligibility, or have SROA and/or Surplus eligibility (please attach your letter, if available). SROA and Surplus candidates are given priority; therefore, individuals with other eligibility may be considered in the event no SROA or Surplus candidates apply. Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s)., In addition to evaluating each candidate’s relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate: Skills to perform effectively in an environment with multiple competing priorities. Ability to communicate effectively with technical staff, vendors, and internal customers and identify business needs. Ability to effectively use California Project Management Framework, project tracking softwares, AEM Forms Designer and Workbench, Microsoft Power Automate and Power BI.
